Windham Boys Are Missing Depth in the Pool

Lance

full 30 seconds behind his finish. David

What does this
mean? Well, when a swim team has six
members to swim twelve events and three of
those are four-member relays, the options
available are very limited. Depth in this
example is number of swimmers, not feet in
the pool. Four of the six participants on
Saturday are seasoned swimmers. In all,
Windham has eight swimmers, but due to the
holiday, were missing a few.

Elaine
Miller touches in the final event, the 400m
Free Relay to give the Windham Eagles the
win in Saturday's meet at Riverton Pool. Her
Relay mates were Chloe Mack, Mikayla Eskilon
and Kirsten Russell. The Relay time was
4:42.82. Photo by David Field
In a classic
show of depth, the Windham Girls Swimming
team defeated both schools in a holiday meet
by a handful of points. The meet literally
came down to the last event, the 400m Free
Relay. The squad of Chloe Mack, Mikayla
Eskilson, Kirsten Russell and Elaine Miller
won the event in 4:42.82 to seal the meet
for the young Eagle swimmers. All teams
were handicapped with missing swimmers and
it was especially tough for the Eagle Boy’s
squad. They typically have eight swimmers,
but were down 2. They couldn’t put enough
bodies in the pool to score points. The 200
Free event was absent a Windham swimmer.

As I watched the Gorham
at Windham basketball game, I first noticed
a young female on the Gorham bench that
seemed to always jump up at timeouts. Then
I realized that she was signing to a
player. Which one? I soon figured it out.
As I watched the game unfold, I told myself
that this wasn’t an ordinary kid. He was
out playing ball and having fun. I
introduced myself to “Amanda” after the game
and asked if I could do a quick story on the
player she was signing for. She obliged and
I met Fangen Thompson and his coach Allen
Grady as the seventh grade basketball game
was played in front of us.

team could do little as the Gorham seventh
