Windham Youth Gets Deer on Opening Day
www.mainesportspages.com
October 27,
2007
By David Field
Just a week
after his 13th birthday, Cody
Dube shot his first deer from just over 200
yards away with his brand new Savage .270
rifle. Once again, the evidence is mounting
that deer just don’t lie down when it is
raining. It is early in the season and deer
haven’t converted to being totally
nocturnal.

2007 Deer Season: Opening Day

October 27,

By David Field
Saturday,
October 27, 2007, marked the opening day for
deer season. This day is for Maine
residents only. My friend Cliff had to make
the trip north to pick up his moose meat at
the butcher shop, so we planned on hunting
in northern Washington County around the
camp despite the weather forecast.

Dear Players
and Coaches;
It is WYSA policy to play in the rain and
tomorrow's forecast is calling for rain
(heavy at times). Sunday's forecast is
calling for sunshine. Our last schedualed
games are this weekend. Our last weekend
includes games, picture distribution, and
medal presentations. In order to end the
season on a positive note and make the
closing weekend as enjoyable as possible, we will be moving
our last slate of games to Sunday the 28th.
All the times will remain the same and the
picture and medal distribution will remain
the same. We are just changing the day.
I know this will be inconvienent for some of
you, and for this I apologize. After last
years rain soaked ending date, I want to do
what is best for the kids.
See you Sunday
Rick Yost

FOOTBALL DOMINATES WESTBROOK FOR 4th STRAIGHT
WIN
Windham 41, Westbrook 12
October 22, 2007
Discuss this game
in our new forums
Windham
JV Football won their fourth consecutive game to
push their record to 4-4 with an 41-12 win over
Westbrook.
Another great team effort by the
Eagles at Westbrook. Offensively Cody Laberge
led the Eagle with 4 TD passes and also ran the
ball for 30 yards. He connected on passes to
Xavier Libby, TJ Robbins, Matt Gledhill, Jake
Darling, and Sam Harmon. The Offensive line led
by Corbyn Cook, Matt Wilson, Kevin Springer,
Matt Libby, and Rob Riley opened up massive
holes for the run game and did not allow a sack
in the pass game. Defensively the Eagles
caused 6 turnovers. 3 fumble recoveries by Chris
Desmond, David LeClaire, and Kevin Springer and
3 interceptions by Kevin Springer, Jake Darling,
and Sam Harmon. The JV Eagles end their season
4-4 by winning 4 straight games to end the
year. Great Job!!

THE GREAT MAINE OUTDOORS
The great
outdoors of Maine affords us opportunities
we sometimes take for granted. Whether it is
hiking our favorite mountain, swimming in
the ocean or in one of Maine's many lakes
or, for some, heading out into the
wilderness on an annual hunting trip.
We are pleased
to announce we have added a new section
dedicated to outdoor sportsmen and their
adventures. The first contribution is a new
column called Field in the Field by David
Field. David will periodically share his
adventures with us. His first installment
follows him on a great Maine tradition, the
fall hunting trip.
We are looking
for others who would share in this type of
sport and want to share your stories with us
too.

THE GREATEST
GAME ON EARTH
October
12, 2007
I don’t think there is a high
school athletic experience that can rival a
Friday night football game. Even as a
basketball guy, I would admit that the most
fun I ever had was on the gridiron. There
was always something exciting about the cool
fall air, the blaring music on the loud
speaker, and the huge crowds that fill most
high school stadiums in Maine. I will never
forget the experience of playing Biddeford
at Waterhouse Field and having 4000 fans
taunt us before each snap. They were so
crazy back then. And it wasn’t just the
varsity teams that Tiger fans went after. I
once got heckled by an elderly Biddeford man
after losing an eighth grade game at
Waterhouse. I was walking to the bus with a
friend and the man yelled, “Hey, why don’t
you bring your freshmen team down here and
we will beat them too.” It was intimidating,
but I loved it. What I would do for just one
more game.

2007 HOMECOMING

Fall is the
greatest season of the year. The air gets
crisp, apples need to be picked and the
grass even smells better. Maybe my affection
for fall sports, specifically football and
soccer that has something to do with the
last item.
