Windham Wins Again!

Home Meet for Cross-Country!

At Windham September 27th

The cross country team seems to be having a lot of luck with the weather this year.   At 9:00 Thursday morning there was a thunderstorm! We thought the meet would be postponed, but later on the bad weather stopped and the sun came out! More importantly, the meet went on!

All of the middle school grades, 6th, 7th, and 8th ran together for this meet. The girls ran their race first and then the boys ran. Our cross country course in Windham is 1 ½ miles long.  It consists of a trail in the woods behind the track, a loop around the Primary School playground, and back into the trail. There are five major hills that the runners have to go up! When entering the trail, there is a very steep hill with many roots and rocks. The runners get a lot of speed going down this hill, but they have to watch their footing!

This week there were only two teams, Windham and Bonny Eagle. The Windham Girls’ Senior division, 7th and 8th grades, had a perfect score of 15, and the Jr. Division, 6th grade, scored 23. The boys also did a superb job!  Boys’ Senior division scored 23 and junior division scored 20!

It was an awesome day for 8th grader Talia McKay because she won her first cross country meet!  She started out strong right from the start and kept a steady pace the whole race! Talia’s time was 10:58.  Finishing in second place was Mary Margret Green with an outstanding time of 11:14.  In the Girls Junior division, Samantha Frost came in 1st place!  Her time was 11:29.
