Portland Phoenix Pre-Super Y Program
Information
MPS
Portland Phoenix is pleased to announce
a new youth initiative within the club.
Building on the success of our Super Y
League program; we have added a new
level to our club structure that will
allow elite U11 & U12 boys and girls, to
enter into a high level training
program, and compete against out of
state competition.
The Pre
Super Y is a player identification
program designed to locate and develop
talented young players, who are serious
about the game and have aspirations to
play in the Super Y-League with the MPS
Portland Phoenix.
The Pre Super-Y program exposes players
to a curriculum that will enhance their
technical prowess, whilst expanding
their understanding of game related
situations. Our aim is to provide the
committed soccer player the chance to
train at the next level, without
interfering with their regular club team
activities. We at MPS Portland Phoenix
enthuse players to take part in as many
soccer activities as possible, both
within and out with the club.
In the
fall of 2009 we brought together a
select group of players to take part in
an initial training program, which ended
with the group travelling to MA to take
part in Mass Premier Soccer’s end of
season Jamboree.
Schedule
*The group
will practice twice weekly at the
Portland Sports Complex.
*Sessions
will take place Tuesdays & Thursdays
*Schedule
begins June 29th and will end August 5th
Technical
Development
Our goal
is to build a strong foundation for
future success in each and every player.
The program focuses on developing:
* A positive, fun and challenging
training environment.
* Individual ball skills, confidence and
creativity.
* Teaching of key soccer techniques:
dribbling, control, passing and
shooting.
* An Understanding of Combination Play.
* A basic knowledge of positioning and
team shape.
* A love of game, discipline and respect
for staff and opponents.
* Goalkeepers are provided with
supplemental specialized GK training
throughout the program at no additional
fee.
Competition
All
players in the Pre Super-Y program are
given the opportunity to play in Summer
game play with their Pre Super-Y Team.
The players are encouraged by coaches to
compete and utilize their skills in
events. The Pre Super-Y program stresses
Player Development over game results.
By the end
of the U12 program, the curriculum will
have developed each player’s mental,
physical, technical and tactical
components of the game; thus preparing
all players for the next stage of our
club pyramid system.
