ORDER COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE
Samm
Russell is like most of the girls on the
Windham seventh grade field hockey team.
She is playing and learning the game for
the first time.
Russell
has been a standout soccer and
basketball player for a while. She is
quickly making the transition to a
standout field hockey player as well.
She has
played goalie in her first two field
hockey games against Westbrook and
Gorham. She didn't allow a goal in
either game, earning two shut outs in
two starts in goal.
Russell is
also a member of the Windham U13 girls
travel soccer team and plays premier
soccer for
MCU in the winter and spring. She
also plays travel and AAU basketball.
Q&A
WSP: Where do you see yourself in five
years?
Samm:
I will be in high school and would like
to be one of the top goalies in soccer
or field hockey. I will be looking to
get into a good college. I'm not sure
what I want to be but it will come to
me.
WSP: Who is your role model in sports?
Samm:
I don't have one. I don't want to copy
anyone. I want to be the best I can be.
But if I had to pick someone, it would
be my older brother Zach.
WSP: Who is your role model in life?
Samm:
I'm my own role model. I want to be
myself.
WSP:
How do you prepare for sports?
Samm:
I have everything ready the day before.
WSP:
Favorite sports memory?
Samm:
It would have to be when my team went
down to P.K.s in soccer. I was 11 and it
was my first time blocking P.K.s. I
saved them all and we won. Being goalie
is really tough sometimes. When you save
a goal, it feels good and your team is
happy. When you miss one, the game ends
and your team has lost, you start to
feel that its all your fault sometimes.
You're put into a lot of pressure.
