ORDER COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE
Katie
Herzig is just 10 years old, and is
already compiling an impressive list of
accomplishments.
On August
9, she capped off a great summer of
track by winning the Bantam Girls Shot
Put State Championship at the Summer
Youth
State Track Meet in Augusta.
Katie also
won the silver medal (2nd place) in the
Long Jump and took home a 6th place
ribbon in the high jump at the
State Track Meet.
In March,
Herzig and her Charlotte Stings
teammates defeated the Los Angeles Spark
30-12 to win the
WYBA Senior Girls Championship.
Katie is
not only a champ on the court and track,
she is also a champ in the classroom as
a high honors student at Windham Middle
School.
Katie had
company on the ride to the
State Track Meet.
Her
brother Jack won the Midget Boys Discus
Throw Championship took 4th place in the
shot put, and competed in the 4x100
relay.
Her
brother Kyle won the Mite Boys Shot Put
championship and was a member of the
Mite Boys 4x100 Relay Championship team,
he also finished 4th in the long
jump.

WSP: Where do you see yourself in five
years?
Katie:
Hopefully I will be playing soccer,
basketball, softball and track at
Windham High School.
WSP: Who is your role model in sports?
Katie:
My Coaches
WSP: Who is your role model in life?
Katie:
My Memere and Pepere and my family.
WSP:
How do you prepare for sports?
Katie:
I don't miss a single practice if I can
help it. I stretch before each game or
event.
WSP:
Favorite sports memory?
Katie:
Winning the Senior Girls basketball
championship--I got to play up and
learned a lot from my coaches. I was out
of basketball for 5 weeks before the big
game with a sprained ankle that I got
making a lay-up in a game. I also had a
great time in summer track this year!
