Lauren Shoemaker |
ORDER COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE
Lauren
Shoemaker exemplifies what we look for
in an Athlete of the Week. Not only is
she a standout athlete on the field,
court and track; she is also a talented
student who works hard in the classroom
as well.
Coach Doug Green said, "Lauren is a
very strong competitor who always
comes to do her best. She’s got a
game face…..with a smile !!! She is
an
excellent
teammate and is always willing to
help her fellow athletes any way
that she can. She will give up a
spot in a relay or run a race
voluntarily to boost a teammate’s
confidence."
Coach Green added, "In short, she
“gets it “."
Lauren
plays travel soccer for Windham
Youth Soccer and for Odyssey Sport,
a premier soccer club that plays its
home games in Scarborough.
Coach
Lenny Hurrell Coaches Lauren's
Odyssey U12 soccer team. He said, "Shoey
is a pleasure to coach. She will
play any position asked of her, is
challenging herself to develop her
skills and is always having fun
doing it. She is a leader on the U12
Odyssey Girls Soccer Team."
She
began running cross country for the
middle school this past fall. She
followed that up with indoor track
and is now competing in outdoor
track.
This
summer she will be competing in
Windham's outdoor track program.
Lauren
is also an accomplished basketball
player. She plays Travel basketball
through Windham Youth Basketball
Association and also plays AAU
Basketball.
Coach Green echoes Coach Hurrell's
statement, "I consider it an honor
to coach her and appreciate the
passion she brings to the sport."
Congratulations Lauren!
Q&A
WSP: Where do you see yourself in five

what I want to do with my life.
WSP: Who is your role model in sports?
Lauren:
David Beckham
WSP: Who is your role model in life?
Lauren:
Doug Green - He has a positive
personality, a good sense of humor, is
enthusiastic about helping everyone, and
he always makes me smile :)
Lauren:
How do you prepare for sports?
Lauren:
To prepare for sports I stretch out, do
warm ups such as high knees, sprints,
and butt kicks, and mentally think about
what's ahead of me and what I am going
to do to leave it all out there..
Lauren:
Favorite sports memory?
Lauren:
In
summer track 2005 I was 10 but had to
race in the 11/12 year old group because
of my birthday month. I was running in
the 100 meter sprint and finished in
first place over all. Also in a soccer
game I was taking a corner kick and I
"bent" the ball into the goal.
