ORDER COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE
Woody
Laliberte has a special reason for
running in the
Jingle Bell 5k, which raises money
for research to find a cure for
arthritis. His father Bill was diagnosed
with arthritis three years ago and he
thought it would be cool to get involved
by running in the road race.
He was
also interested because he had never run
a road race in the winter before.
Woody ran
as part of a team called
WooKeeMarMarTaliJoe which
consisted of Woody, Keegan
Brennan, Mary Margaret
Green, Talia McKay and Joe
Mycock, as well as Paula Pock, Linda
Mycock, Terry Coggins-Bickford and
Melanie Harvey.
Woody runs
during four different seasons, cross
country in the fall, indoor track in the
winter and outdoor track in the spring
and summer. This will be his last year
running in the summer you track program.
Although he said, "I can run in meets
the following year, but I can't compete
in the State Meet."
Woody went
on to say that he would like to coach
during summer track once he is too old
to compete.
Woody got
his start in track because his mom
wanted him to stay active in the summer.
He started to have some success and
liked the feel of his accomplishments.
Woody ran
in the
state meet in the 100M hurdles and
the 400M last summer. Athletes have to
finish in the top four places in the
qualifying meet to advance to the
state meet.
Coach
Paula Pock has coached Woody in the
summer track program the last four
years, middle school cross country for
the last three years and Middle School
indoor track for the last two years. She
said, "Woody is a strong and powerful
runner in track, running mostly the 400M
and the hurdles. Each year continues to
steadily improve and has been
consistently one of the top performers
in his events. The wonderful thing about
Woody is that he has turned his excess
energy into a positive presence on the
field and has become a strong leader
that his peers really respond to. I look
forward to his progress the next few
years."
Woody also
plays soccer and just completed his
final season playing in Windham Youth
Soccer, as a member of the U14 Boys
travel team. He said his favorite thing
about soccer is, "Being on the team."
