Gribbin is just the third Windham High School girl to record 1,000 points in her basketball career. Payson Sawn ('96) and Lea Bennett ('98) also scored 1,000 points in their careers at Windham High School.
Gribbin scored five points in the first quarter before exploding for 15 points in the second quarter. She nearly broke the 1,000 points in the second quarter but a three point attempt bounced around the rim before falling out. The crowd was energized at halftime knowing her first basket in the second half would give her 1,000 points. Gribbin didn't disappoint, scoring early in the 3rd quarter on a short jumper.

The game was immediately stopped for a presentation at midcourt. Athletic Director Rich Drummond presented Gribbin with a plaque and a sweatshirt while Coach Jessie Cummings presented her with the gameball. Gribbin ran across the court and up into the stands to give her parents a hug and the items she had just received.

Gribbin said, "It's a relief. I never really got nervous like that before a game. I felt like I was forcing a little bit early in the game but in the second quarter I just let the game come to me. We ran our plays really well and people did an awesome job getting me open and my shots just started falling."
Coach Jessie Cummings agreed, "The girls that played with Meghan since second grade were just as excited for her to score 1,000 as Meghan was. We built a team, we built a family. They were setting screens for her and looking to get her the ball. They wanted her to score 1,000 points and there was a lot of energy behind that."
Gribbin's place in Eagles history isn't completely written yet. With the 1,000 points scored milestone behind her she is now in reach of becoming Windham High School's alltime leading scorer on the girls side. Lea Bennett is the current record holder with 1,045 points. Gribbin now has 1,015 points leaving her 30 points shy with nine games left in the regular season. Add in games from a likely trip to the tournament and Gribbin should far surpass the current mark.

Gribbin reached the milestone playing in front of a packed Windham section. When the wrestling team heard she had 20 points at halftime leaving her one short of 1,000 points they halted practice and came into the gym to watch her score the last remaining point. Younger girls in the community made signs recognizing her achievement and someone passed out 8x11" sheets of paper to the Windham crowd with "1,000 points" printed on them to hold up.
Gribbin acknowledged the support for her and her teammates, "I couldn’t ask for a better community from kids 2 years old up to my grandparents and their friends. Everybody is really awesome, it’s a community effort and everyone is really behind us and it is just a really good feeling."
Gribbin has earned the support from the community. She has worked with the younger players in the community throughout her high school career. She has made an impression on the young girls in Windham and they look up to her and they come out to the games to cheer her on.
Coach Cummings added, "I think you saw what Meghan represents to the community. There were a lot of kids from the youth program here. She’s given back to the community, she has worked with those kids in the youth program, she works my summer camps. She has been involved with basketball and when you think about Windham basketball you think about Meghan, and when the little kids in the community think about Windham basketball they think about Meghan."
Gribbin has amassed her impressive scoring numbers while widely being considered an unselfish player. In addition to Gribbin's impressive scoring achievements she is ammassing an equally impressive assists total as well. She currently has 236 assists in 65 career games. If every one of her assists only contributed to a two point score by her teammates that would mean she has also contributed to helping her team score another 462 points over her career.
Factor in trips to the foul line by recipients of her passes who were fouled while in the act of shooting and given the fact that she has been surrounded by talented three-point shooters like current teammates Bebe Butts, Steph Frost and many others it is easy to say that her team has accumulated well over 500 points from her unselfish play.
Coach Cummings said, "She is a true point guard and wants to set other people up. She also had five assists tonight so its nice to see that she now knows she can score big points and still set people up. When she starts creating her own offense and people start focusing in on her, she is a smart player and knows not to force it then and find the open player. The school scoring record is 1,045. I hope she keeps playing with the scoring mentality and she will break it in no time."
