| First Windham Youth Lacrosse Clinic An Overwhelming Success Windham Youth Lacrosse January 23, 2011 
WYLO President Doug McInnis and Vice President Steve Pock address the crowd of 79 players and their parents after the first lacrosse skills clinic at Windham High School. Windham, ME: The first Windham Youth Lacrosse Organization (WYLO) Clinic held at the Windham High School gym on Sunday January 23, 2011 was an overwhelming success with 79 participants attending the basic skills clinic. Sunday's clinic was the first time many of those in attendance picked up a lacrosse stick. The clinic was the first in a series of progressive basic skills clinics being held from 2:00PM - 3:30PM at the WHS gym on Sunday afternoons. WYLO Vuce President Steve Pock said, "Yesterday’s clinic was the very basic individual skills needed to play the game. To effectively play the game, you need to combine those individual skills. So as we move forward we will look to combine individual skills in a single drill. Ie. Scoop and pass, cradle and shoot, etc." As Windham is introduced to Lacrosse, WYLO is providing as much information and training as possible before the actual season begins. Pock added, "The equipment for lacrosse is about $200 for everything, which includes stick and helmet. Players can usually get multiple seasons out of the equipment. The time commitment is the same as any other sport, but is most similar to travel soccer or basketball. 2 practices a week and one, maybe two games on the weekend. Half the games should be at home and half in the greater Portland area. The season will start in about April and be done in June like other spring sports." Registration will be in 2 sessions, on the week of February 7 and 14 in the HS cafeteria and once the dates get firmed up they will be posted on our website and sent via the distribution list. |
