South Portland rallis for last second victory

South Portland, ME: The Windham sixth grade boys travel team led South Portland for most of the game befre South Portland rallied and score the winning basket as time expired.

Windham took a 2-0 lead midway through the six minute first quarter when Ezra Boynton drove to the hoop for a layup. Chris Brown followed with a layup to put Windham ahead 4-0. Windham led 4-3 at the end of the first quarter and wouldnt trail again until the final second of the game.

Windham opened the second quarter with an 8-2 run. Cam Hoffses started the scoring with back to back layups and Austin McGowan followed with a layup of his own. Mitchell Delcourt added a layup and Hoffses added a free throw to put Windham ahead 13-8 at halftime.

Austin McGowan accounted for all five of Windham's third quarter points. He hit a sweet floater from the left side, then a jumper from the right side and finished off the quarter with a free throw to extend Windham's lead to 18-10 at the end of three quarters.

Hoffses scored Windham's only fourth quarter point on a free throw to put Windham ahead 19-10. Then South Portland came roaring back. It seemed everything went their way as they scored 11 points in the final few minutes after only scoring 10 points in the first 18 minutes.

With the score tied 19-19 South Portland grabbed a defensive rebound and ran the floor for a layup as the last second ticked off the clock for the 21-19 come from behind victory.
