Falmouth, ME: Seven Windham fourth graders and two second graders competed in Falmouth's third and fourth grade basketball league over the winter. The league is open to teams outside of Falmouth. Each team needs to have at least two second graders or younger. The team added two second graders after a couple third graders fell through.

The league focuses on fun and skill building rather than wins and losses. There are no playoffs whcih helps everyone focus on the league goals. Games are played every Sunday at Falmouth High School.

Windham's girls team had a lot of personal and team success. Each girl was encouraged to handle the ball and take individual risks both dribbling and shooting. As with any youth sports experience there were a lot of teaching moments to help the girls deal with different situations.

One of the highlights of the season for the coaches was during one of the girls many games where they had large leads over their opponents. The girls got together at halftime and decided that instead of continuing to run up the score they were going to pass the ball to the two second graders every time down the floor to help them scorte their first baskets of the season. Both second graders were very excited to get baskets that day.
