Windham throttles Bonny Eagle 38-12
WMS 8th Grade Girls Basketball

Windham, ME: The Windham Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team easily defeated Bonny Eagle 38-12 on Wednesday. Sadie Nelson fueled the offense with 16 points while Ciera Berthiaume had six points in the winning effort.

Windham outscored Bonny Eagle 15-0 in the first quarter. Katie Herzig got the first scoring play started when she stole the ball at midcourt and quickly passed the ball to Sadie Nelson who was fouled in the process of scoring. Nelson completed the three point play by sinking the free throw which put Windham ahead for good. Julia Linevitch hit a free throw before Nelson found herself at the line again, making both free. Neslon was fouled again on her next scoring play and once again hit the free throw for another three-point play. Alex Ciera got involved with a bucket before Sadie Nelson found herself alone at the foul line, sinking two free throws for a technical foul called on a Bonny Eagle player. Neslon went 6 for 6 and scored 12 of her 16 points in the first quarter helping Windham to a 15-0 lead.

Bonny Eagle got on the scoreboard by scoring the first three points of the second half before Erin merchant sank a free throw for the Eagles. Bonny Eagle scored two more points before Ciera Berthiaume recorded her first basket of the game. Maddie Mauro followed with a basket before Bonny Eagle closed out the second quarter scoring. Windham took a 20-7 lead into halftime.

Nelson began a 6-0 Windham run to start the second half. Laura Tracy and Mira Murray also scored during the run. Bonny Eagle added a point off a foul shot. Berthiaume added two baskets and Bonny Eagle added two baskets as Windham took a 30-12 lead into the fourth quarter.

#22 Maddie Mauro dribbles away from pressure.

The fourth quarter was all Windham as they blanked Bonny Eagle in the second quarter of the night. Maddie Mauro scored first to spark the 8-0 fourth quarter run. Tracy added another hoop and Nelson hit final two-pointer of the game. Cirillo closed out the scoring and the rout with her second basket of the game.
