Lincoln Edges Windham in Opener

Portland, ME: Lincoln Middle School defeated Windham Middle School 38-35 in seventh grade action on Wednesday night. Chris Brown led Windham with 10 points while Ezra Boynton scored seven and Cam Hoffses contributed six for the Eagles.

Windham's Zach Petcher scored the first three points of the game to put Windham up 3-0. Shane Donnelly scored a bucket from the blocks to answer a Lincoln score and give Windham a 5-2 lead. Chris Brown hit a layup to break a 5-5 tie, and then hit two free throws to give Windham a 9-7 lead. It was the last time Windham would lead as Lincoln had a 13-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.

James Mannette got the scoring going in the second quarter with a free throw. Ezra Boynton followed with a nice drive to the hoop to bring Windham to within a point. Lincoln answered with a basket before Cam Hoffses hit a free throw to bring Windham to within a basket. Boynton again drove to the basket to tie the game 15-15. Lincoln scored four points late in the half to take a 19-15 lead. Windham inbounded the ball with three seconds left, giving Boynton enough time to hit a buzzer beater from midcourt to pull the Eagles to within one point at halftime with the Lions leading 19-18.

Lincoln scored three points to open the second half. Hoffses answered with a drive for a layup. Tommy Leavitt ended a 6-0 Lincoln run with layup. Lincoln ended the third quarter with another 6-0 run to take a commanding 34-22 lead into the start of the 4th quarter.

Brown started the fourth with a bseline jumper before the Lions got their first points of the quarter. Brown hit another jumper to start a 7-0 Windham run that included a steal and layup by Gavin Thibodeau and three points by Hoffses. Hofsses points came off a free throw, and then he stole and inbounds pass and hit the layup to end the run. Lincoln scored their last points of the game to increase their lead to 38-31 before Brown added his third jumper of the quarter. Mannette closed out the scoring by grabbing a rebound and putting it in the hoop.
