On a cool but pleasant afternoon, the number eight Windham Eagles (12-3) faced off against number nine South Portland (6-7-2) in the Western Maine Preliminary tournament. Windham controlled much of the game but South Portland had its moments in the Eagle zone. At 22:00 in the first half, Eagle keeper Amber Verrill was injured and had to come out of the game. Sophomore Kate Kneeland stepped in and made a huge save to keep the Riots off the board. At the next whistle, Verrill returned and finished the shutout for the Eagles.

At 14:21 of the second half, freshman Jenna Soucy put in the Eagles second goal for insurance. With time ticking off, Sbardella took a shot at 38:41 that went just inside the near post to make the score 3-0. It appeared that the shot was going to go out of bounds but actually found net.
