Orlando, FL: Windham was supposed to face a team from Connecticut in their final game. When that team didn’t show, the Eagles battled against each other and the coaches got involved too.

The team that started the first game of the day scrimmaged the team that arrived later. Since the first squad had used up pitching, the coaches volunteered to pitch. Coach Carlson took the hill first. He pitched a solid two innings despite hitting the first batter he faced. Coach Fullerton then took the hill and managed a strong two innings. In the fifth, Coach Talon managed two-thirds of an inning and Brody Artes finished.

However, the Eagles facing the coaches were not intimidated. That squad hit the coaches very well and generated several runs. Additionally, Ben Noble pitched a good game against his teammates. Coach Fullerton picked up the bat to try to generate some offense for his team. After fouling off a couple of Noble pitches, Fullerton struck out. That out was met with applause from the crowd in support of Ben Noble’s effort. Fully gave him a smile and headed to the bench. The game was officiated by the scheduled umpires. After the game, the home plate umpire told me “That was the most fun I have had doing a game in a long time. Your coaches can pitch very well and can really throw strikes.”

After the game, several players were actually glad that the Disney trip ended with the inter-squad scrimmage. “It was real fun to play with the coaches. There wasn’t the pressure of a real game, but we definitely had some fun competition” said Cody Laberge.
