BIDDEFORD, MAINE; The 2011 Maine Games provided the fun, while the Biddeford Youth Football Association provided the volunteers, as boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 15 competed in an official local NFL Punt, Pass & Kick competition at Waterhouse Field for the second straight year as part of the Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic festivities on July 23.
Windham resident Tanner Bernier won the Boys 10-11 year old division.
Dozens of young participants from all over Maine were on hand as they attempted to qualify for the local title, and the opportunity to advance to an NFL Sectional competition. Many young athletes from the first event, held prior to the 2010 Lobster Bowl Classic last July returned to defend their titles, or to try to claim their first 2011 Maine Games gold medal in the event.

This is the 50th year the NFL has offered the free Punt, Pass & Kick competitions, and it is the oldest youth sports competition of its kind in America. Sectional winners may qualify for the NFL Team competition which will be held later this fall, in Foxboro, MA, at a New England Patriots game. The top four age/gender division finishers from around the country will be invited to compete for the national championship during an NFL play-off game next January.
This year's participants attempted to finish in the top two spots in their age/gender division, qualifying them to complete the competition during the half-time show of the 22nd Annual Lobster Bowl Classic, and the 20th consecutive year the fundraiser for Shriners Children's Hospitals was held at historic Waterhouse Field. The Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic is the only Shrine event that delivers 100% of the proceeds to the care and medical attention of children in need at their 22 hospitals throughout North America.
