Portland-Despite playing decent defense
and generating nine hits, Windham
couldn’t generate the runs in a 5-2 loss
against the Cheverus Stags.
In the
first inning, Christian Coons reached on
a single and Nick Sundquist on a walk,
but that was all the base running
Windham saw. Cheverus struck quickly
and capitalized on an error by Brad
Carpentier. The lead-off batter made it
around the bases to put the Stags on the
board. Windham’s defense tightened and
Nate Boyle caught a beautiful fly ball
in centerfield on the run to keep more
runs off the board for Cheverus.

In the
fourth, Windham seemed on the verge of
scoring. Brad Carpentier reached on a
single, Rocco Sbardella reached on a
walk and Jake Mello hit a long single to
load the bases. After that the Stag
pitcher bore down and retired the next
three batters on two strike outs and a
put out.
In the
fifth and sixth, the Eagles still
struggled at the plate. In the sixth,
Cheverus put together some offense to
score two runs to take a three run
lead. They repeated the performance in
the sixth as Corey Cole came on in
relief of Colby Waterhouse. Cole walked
the first four batters before finding
his groove. However, the fifth batter
put the ball in play and recorded an RBI
for the effort to give the Stags the 5-0
lead.

speed of the Cheverus pitcher. David

In the top
of the seventh, Windham’s lead off
batters Cole Moran and Nate Boyle both
hit singles and scored. Although the
effort was admiral, it wasn’t enough to
give the Eagles the win.
