Windham
Youth Soccer is Hosting 4th Annual 4v4
Tournament
Soccer - Windham Youth Soccer

Windham ME:
Windham Youth Soccer (WYSA) is hosting their
4th Annual Backyard 4v4 Friendly Challenge
at Gambo Fields on Saturday June 26 2010.
The tournament
is open to U9 teams right up through adult
teams and everything in between. That means
there will be rec teams, travel teams,
premier teams, high
school teams and even teams of 40+ year old
parents enjoying a fun day of playing soccer!
There are a
lot of different ways teams can be entered
and we welcome them all. WYSA is charging a
$10 per player fee instead of a team fee to
encourage coaches into forming more teams
with smaller rosters to maximize touches on
the ball. WYSA also caps the roster at six
players to ensure that all players get a lot
of time playing.
- Coaches can
organize any team they coach into smaller
teams made up of 4-6 players each. This
means if their team has 12 players on it
they can register two teams of 6 players,
three teams of four players or they can find
more players to make even more teams!
- If a coach
isnt organizing teams for the 4v4
tournaments but players still want to play
they can organize their own teams with their
friends or have their parents help organize
teams. This is a very popular way for teams
to be formed. These teams usually have the
most interesting names.
- If you want
to play but you cant put your own team
together you can register and write on the
form you are a single player and WYSA will
try to find a team for you to play on.
There are also
high school coaches that are registering
teams from their player pools to play in the
tournament. They are making the tournament
part of their summer program.
Why should the
kids have all the fun? The 2010 Windham U12
boys fall travel team has also issued a
challenge to the parents of every youth team
that enters the tournament. They have formed
a womens and a mens team of 40+ year old
parents to compete in the tournament.
It is a three
part challenge:
1. Which youth
team can form the most parent teams?
2. Which
parent teams will play the hardest?
3. Which team
will have the most fun and the most cheering
from their children.
The U12 boys
parents will be ordering matching tournament
t-shirts to use as their jerseys and rumor
has it they are going to try to be the first
ones to request the hot pink t-shirts.
Tournament
t-shirts are available for preorder at a
reduced rate of $10, which is a $5 per shirt savings!
Many teams will order matching tournament t-shirts to
wear as uniforms. Many others order the
t-shirts as a keepsake to remember a great
day of soccer. Whatever you want the shirt
for you should preorder it because WYSA will
only have a limited supply of t-shirts in
white or grey on hand to purchase at the
tournament for $15 each.
The tournament
itself will take place at Gambo Fields in
Windham. There will be fun games for all
ages and a concession stand run by Lampron
Energy in North Windham. They will fire up
the grills early in the morning and man them
until the last hotdog or hamburger is
consumed that afternoon.
DVM Sports is
once again the official photographer of the
tournament. They will take team photos and
action photos throughout the day.
