Windham ME:
Maine Parks and Recreation held their annual
Windham
hot shot competition tonight at the
Windham High School gym.

Jordan
Lloyd wins the 9/10 year old girls division
and is given her orange "ticket" to the next
round
Jordan Lloyd
won the Windham girls 9/10 year old
competition against 5 other girls. It was a
close battle between several shooters.
Maggie Lloyd
was the runner up for the girls 9/10
division and will also be competing in the
Souwthwest regional competition.

Ethan
Spaulding dribbles from midcourt to his
first shooting location.
Ethan
Spaulding
successfully defended his title as the
Windham boys 9/10 year old champion in a
tough battle with three other great
shooters. All four boys who competed tonight
are very good shooters and very competitive.
Any one of the four boys, Spaulding, Chris
Brown, Kyle Herzig or Nick Curtis could have
walked away as the winner.
Chris Brown
was the runner up for the 9/10 boys division
and will represent Windham with Spaulding in
the southwestern regional competition in
South Portland.

clinic.
The
competition consists of three 1-minute
rounds. Participants have to shoot from any
of five spots marked on the floor, each spot
has a different point value between two and
five points depending on the difficulty of
the shot. They can also get two points each
for up to two layups per round.

after a round of shooting.
There are also
bonuses that have a heavy impact on the
outcome of the competition. The shooter is
awarded a five point bonus if they take at
least one shot from all five locations. They
are awarded an additional 15 points if they
take at least two shots from all five
locations on the floor.

Gym Rats:
The competition is over, might as well play
some hoops! Nick Curtis ready to drive to
the hoop with Kyle Herzig defending. A group
of girls shooting around in the background.
Players must
dribble between shots under game rules.
Players lose one point for each travelling
and double dribble violation.
The
combination of the time limit, travelling
penalties and the bonuses make the
competition fast paced and puts some game
like pressure on the shooters to move around
the floor and think about where they need to
shoot from next while dribbling the ball.

Participants were all awarded a certificate
for their efforts.
The two
Windham winners and runner ups will go
compete against other local winners in the
Southwest regional competition at the South
Portland Community Center gym on Saturday
February 20, 2010.
The top
scorers of the regional competition advance
to a state competition on March 7th at the
Portland Expo. Tickets to the Red Claws game
will be given to the state participants. Hot
Shot winners will be recognized and awarded
during the game.
