The Celtics finished a perfect season by capturing the Windham Youth Basketball 5th/6th grade boys Championship.

Windham ME: The Lakers jumped out to an early lead but the Celtics fought back to edge the Lakers 28-27 in the Windham Youth Basketball 5th/6th grade boys championship game.

This game lived up to the expectation of any Celtics vs. Lakers matchup. From the Magic vs. Bird rivalry of the 1980's to the Kobe vs. Pierce, Allen and Garnett of the 2008 NBA Championship.

The location and the names were different but the result was an exciting game that came down to the final seconds.

The Celtics came into the game with a perfect record through the regular season and the first round of the playoffs. The Lakers came in as the team on the rise since getting Gene Gumar back after recovering from a broken arm.

The Lakers controlled the game early. Jumping out to an 8-2 lead and taking a 17-0 lead into halftime. The Celtics had not been in this position before and it showed on their faces.

Both teams fought for the ball in the championship game.

The Celtics regained their composure in the second half. Slowly chipping away at the deficit before finally pulling even 22-22 in the fourth quarter.

Trailing 28-25 with less than 20 seconds left in regulation Gumar took the inbound pass and dribbled to the three point line and drained an apparent three pointer to tie the game. The scoreboard reflected the trey counted. The Celtics inbounded the ball and the Lakers content to go to overtime didn't try to foul the Celtics.

Lakers guard Jacob Frost brings the ball up the court in the second half.

When the final second ticked off the clock the scoreboard was changed to 28-27. The ruling was there are no three pointers in the league and the Celtics had won the game, preserving their perfect season and a championship.

Congratulations to both teams on a great season and an entertaining championship game.
