Defensively for
Windham, Cody Dube was the story. Dube struck
out 18, allowed four hits and two runs. The two
runs were scored in the fifth inning when Cody
Mooney reached base on a double and was driven
in by Ethan Govin’s triple. Govin scored on the
next play when Windham second baseman Ryan
Whiting misplayed the ball.

Windham didn’t
score a run until the sixth inning. Riley
Williamson reached base after being hit by a
pitch. He advanced to second when Cody Dube
grounded out. He then scored on Shawn
Francoeur’s single. The Windham team held the
Sanford squad scoreless in the top of the
seventh, but the pressure was on being behind by
one run.

Robbie Hamilton
led off the inning with a single and then stole
second. Jon Weymouth sacrifice bunted Hamilton
to third. Nate Boyle substituted for Calvin
Field and hit a solid shot to left field to
drive Hamilton in. Boyle then stole second to
get in scoring position. Dylan Taylor hit a
shot to centerfield and reached second on the mis-played catch. Boyle advanced to third on the
play and was held. Mitchell Hodge came to the
plate and basically repeated Taylor’s effort.
The ball dropped just behind the centerfielder
as he tried to locate the ball in the setting
sun. With the ball on the ground, Nate Boyle
took off for home to score the winning run.
Windham plays game
two of the best of three game series Wednesday
night in Sanford at 5:30. The winner of the
series advances to the State Tournament being
held at the Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach
starting July 31.
