Windham ME:
Scarborough remained undefeated with their
57-44 victory over Windham in schoolgirl
basketball on Saturday.
The question
circulating through the Windham bleachers
was "Where is Kelsey McGowan?" The common
answer seemed to be that she was at a
wedding. This was originally an open date
until winter weather postponed the matchup
with Scarborough two times earlier this
week. The game was originally scheduled for
Monday at 1PM. It was pushed back to 4PM the
same day before being postponed until
Tuesday at 4PM. The weather was no better on
Tuesday afternoon so the game was moved to
Saturday. The Eagles would have to face
Western Maine's top ranked team without
their leading scorer.

Bebe Butts
#14, Meghan Gribbin #4 and Amber Allen #20
all wait for Christy Manning of Scarborough
to shoot a free throw.
Windham jumped
out to a 6-1 lead to start the game, powered
by four points from Meghan Gribbin and a
pair of foul shots by Amber Allen.
Scarborough stormed back on an 8-0 run led
by senior standout Christy Manning. Allen
tied the game at 8-8. Stephanie Frost tied
the game at 11-11 with a three pointer and
then pulled Windham to within a point 15-14
at the end of the first quarter on another
three pointer from the same spot as her
first one.

Bebe Butts

The Red Storm
took a 17-14 lead to start the second
quarter. Then sophomore phenom Meghan
Gribbin drained two consecutive
three-pointers to put Windham ahead 20-17.
Diandra Berthiaume drove to the hoop to put
Windham ahead 22-19 with 1:45 remaining in
the first half. Scarborough went on an 8-0
run lead by senior captain Heather Carrier's
four points. Scarborough took a 27-22 lead
into halftime.
Olivia Hurd
opened the second half with a free throw and
Scarborough answered with a basket. Gribbin
hit consecutive buckets to bring the Eagles
back to within two points, trailing 29-27.
Scarborough stretched their lead before
Gribbin drained another three-pointer and
followed it up with a basket to draw Windham
to within two points again, 34-32.
Scarborough freshmen Ashley Ronzo answered
with her own "three". Hurd and Allen both
hit baskets to close Scarborough's lead to
41-36 at the end of three quarters.

Stephanie
Frost had nine points, all on
three-pointers.
Scarborough
went on a 12-2 run to start the fourth
quarter. The Eagles only points coming from
a Hurd basket. Trailing 53-38 Windham went
to their standout sophmore guards. Gribbin
hit her fourth three-pointer of the game and
Frost followed with her third three-pointer
to pull Windham to within nine points,
53-44. Thats as close as Windham got to
Scarborough. Heather Carrier sank four free
throws in the closing seconds to propel the
Red Storm to the 57-44 victory.
This game was
much closer then the final score indicates.
Gribbin got into foul trouble early. The
Windham bench had a huge scare in the third
quarter when Gribbin was knocked to the
floor trying to dribble around a Scarborough
defender. She laid on the floor for several
minutes before being helped to the bench to
ice her elbow. Bebe Butts did a nice job
running the point in Gribbin's absence.
Gribbin eventually returned to the court and
and had four fouls by early in the fourth
quarter.
Gribbin led
all scorers with 22 points and Frost had
nine points, all three pointers. Allen had
six points, Hurd had five points and
Berthiaume had two.
This team is
getting better every time they take court.
Gribbin leads a group of talented young
players that are starting to find their
roles and mesh as a unit. Senior captains
McGowan and Allen provide the experience to
lead them wherever they want to go. Western
Maine teams take notice, the Eagles are a
team on the rise.
