Windham ME:
The Eagles (5-3) pulled away from the Hawks
(1-7) in the final minutes to notch their
third straight win 55-44.
The first
quarter was a back and forth battle that saw
five lead changes before Marshwood put
together consecutive scores for the first
time by either team to take a 13-10 lead at
the end of the first quarter.
For the second
straight game Windham came out pressing.
Eagles Coach Kevin Millington said, "We
found over the Christmas tournament that
when we press at the beginning of a game,
even if it wasn't really to get steals, it
gets us up and down the court and playing.
One area we struggle in is scoring points so
if we can get a little bit more of an
up-tempo game going we can score more
points."
Andrew Verrill put
Marshwood on the scoreboard first. Sophomore Nolan
Allen countered with a three pointer to give Windham
their first lead of the game. Allen got into foul
trouble early in the quarter that limited his
minutes throughout the game.

Adam Szklany brings
the ball up the court. Szklany finished with 13
points.
Tyler Hicky answered
with a three-pointer of his own to put Marshwood
back in front. Andy Brix tied the game 5-5 before
Andrew Verrill hit another basket to give Marshwood
another lead. Garrett Clemmer quickly drained a
three-pointer to put Windham in front 8-7 before
Ryan Hyson hit a basket to give Marshwood the lead
again. Jackson Taylor answered with a basket give
Windham their final lead of the quarter. Dan
Thompson hit consecutive baskets to give Marshwood
the 13-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Millington said, "I
thought we were a little flat in the first half. A
little bit of that was an emotional win on Tuesday
night. It took us a little time to get going and
attacking them. We settled for a lot of jump shots
early".
Marshwood continued
their 9-0 run to start the second quarter on two
Andrew Verrill free throws and Matt Crosby's
three-pointer to give Marshwood a 18-10 lead.
Stephen Lambert started a 10-0 Windham run with two
free throws and Adam Szklany put in a basket. Nick
Taylor hit free throw and Szklany sank a
three-pointer to tie the game 18-18. Clemmer put the
Eagles back in front with his second basket of the
night. Andrew Verrill evened the score 20-20 at
halftime.

Garrett Clemmer is
knocked to the floor as his shot falls into the net.
Clemmer led the Eagles with 17 points.
Tyler Hickey got the
second half going. Clemmer tied the game with a
basket and Jack Verrill countered with basket before
Clemmer put Windham ahead 25-22 with his second
three-pointer of the night. Lambert extended the
Eagles lead to 27-24 with a basket. Crosby brought
the Hawks back to within one point with two free
throws. Allen added a free throw to put Windham
ahead 28-26 until Jack Verrill completed a
three-point play to put Marshwood back on top 29-28.
Then Szklany heated up, draining two consecutive
three pointer and jumping Windham out to a 34-29
lead. Jack Verrill and Ben Dalecki each hit shots to
close to within one point, 34-33 at the end of three
quarters.
Ryan Hyson put

before Lambert put Windham ahead 36-35 on two free

when stole the ball at midcourt and drove to the

Jack Verrill and two free throws from Crosby. Brix
answered by stealing the ball at midcourt and taking
it in for a layup for a 40-38 Windham lead. Andrew
Verrill countered with a basket to tie the game for
the last time.

Nolan Allen goes puts
up a shot. Allen finished with nine points on the
night.
Allen started an 11-0
Windham run with two points, followed by Szklany
stealing the ball at midcourt and driving to the
hoop for a layup. Clemmer added two free throws and
Allen drained a three before Clemmer capped off the
run with another steal and layup to give Windham a
commanding 51-40 lead. Andrew Verrill added a basket
and Lambert answered to keep Windham ahead by 11
points, 53-42. Clemmer hit another free throw and
Hyson capped Marshwood's scoring with a basket
before Lambert hit a free throw to end the game's
scoring.
Millington said, "I
thought the difference in the game was when Nolan
(Allen) got in foul trouble early, it was because he
was playing a little bit lazy on defense. When he
got back in the game at the end he attacked and
changed the whole complexion of the game. He scored
a few points and Garrett (Clemmer) got a couple
steals and changed the momentum of the game. We just
got more aggressive in the fourth quarter and we
weren't aggressive through the first three quarters
of the game."
Windham faces their
arch rivals at 8:00PM on Saturday in Gorham.
