Waterville ME:
A year ago Windham High School (WHS) had
never won a Class A state Championship. This
weekend the WHS boys tennis team won the
second class A State Championship for the
school in the last eight months.
The Windham
High School Boys Tennis Team has been a top
contender for a state title the past few
years. Up until this weekend they had fallen
just short of their goal. That changed as
the Eagles unseated seven-time defending
state champion Lewiston Blue Devils.

Windham had
been working towards this day since they
lost to Lewiston in the Class A State
Championship a year ago.

Dan Crocker had just
watched the final shot sail wide of the court before
the celebration began. Crocker had defeated
Lewiston's Eric Hall 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 to seal Windham's
3-2 victory over Lewiston. The loss snapped
Lewiston's 119 consecutive wins and a seven year
reign as state champions including their win over
Windham in 2009.

Windham's Nate Johnson
defeated Lewiston's Scott Gagne 6-2, 7-6 and
Windham's number one doubles team of Nick Rallis and
Kurt Stultz got revenge for last year's three set
loss in the State match by defeating Lewsiton's Alex
Chicoine and Jon McDonough 6-3, 6-4.
Lewiston scored their
two points when Eric Morin defeated Windham
sophomore Ryan Johnson 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 and Lewiston's
Keagan Cote and Brett Vallee defeated Windham's Dan
McGovern and Andy Brix 7-6, 6-3.
