Scarborough:
The Red Storm dominated the first
half of the game and maintained in the
second to put away the Windham Eagles
Saturday afternoon 59-48.
Scarborough, like Biddeford used a 2-3
zone that frustrated the Eagle squad for
much of the game. Additionally, the Red
Storm’s shooting was precise as they
used the long ball to record several
three-pointers. As the clocked ticked
down for the end of the first quarter,
Windham was wondering what they had to
do to contain their opponents and
generate an offense of their own.
Scarborough led 17-9 at the end of the
first.

The second
quarter again saw Scarborough out-score
Windham by seven points and that was
despite the foul trouble their squad got
into. The Red Storm had 12 fouls called
against them in the first half compared
to Windham’s five. Windham missed a
total of eight free throws in the first
half to add to the frustration of the
game. At the half, Windham was down by
15 points. That spread was actually
lower than the largest spread of 20
mid-way through the second quarter.

In the
third, Windham came out and started
playing more aggressively. They began
to chip away at the Red Storm lead and
also were being called for fouls. The
aggressive style also gave Windham some
opportunities at the foul line as well
as they began to drive to the hoop to
draw fouls instead of trying to make the
outside shots. Windham outscored
Scarborough 16-12 in the third quarter
and looked to be making a comeback.
Both teams
in the fourth quarter began to let the
frustrations of the physical game show.
Windham continued to chip away at
Scarborough’s lead and continued to have
the whistles blown against them. Not to
be out-done, the Red Storm’s #21 had a
call against him with 3:19 left in the
game that resulted in his fifth foul of
the game. Windham got to within six
points but Scarborough resorted to time
killing and Windham had little choice
but to force foul Scarborough. Shawn
Francoeur took a seat after being
whistled for his fifth foul with just
over a minute left in the game. The
Eagles applied full-court pressure,
fouled and continued to send Red-Storm
players to the free throw line.
Windham’s attempts to chip away at the
lead were to no avail as they ended up
losing by 11.
Catch the
Eagles next Saturday at 12:00 as they
take on Kennebunk in Windham.
