Windham and
Saco 9/10 year old summer travel baseball
teams lined up during the national anthem.
Windham ME:
The Windham 9/10 year old team began their
2010 Southern Maine Kids Travel Baseball
League season against Saco at Lowell Field
tonight. Six pitchers combined to record 15
strikeouts in six innings.
Ethan
Spaulding started on the mound tonight in
his first baseball game in almost a year..
Spaulding took the spring off from little
league and decided to play summer baseball
less than two hours before the game.
Spaulding walked the first batter he faced,
Daniel McLeer before settling down and
striking out the next three batters to end
the inning.

Tanner
Bernier gets instructions from third base

John Fogg took
the mound for Saco and Mike Sbardella led
off the bottom of the first inning with a
fly out to short stop. Tanner Bernier
followed with a single and stole second.
Hunter Coffin followed with an RBI single,
scoring Bernier. Mike Woods hit an RBI
single and Mitchell Delcourt followed with a
base hit. Spaulding hit into a 1-3 ground
out. Tanner "King Fu Panda" Grover hit an
RBI single and Delcourt stole home on a
passed ball to give Windham a 4-0 lead.
Tyler Thornton and JT Russell walked before
the inning ended.
Windham led
4-0 at the end of one inning.
Kyle Herzig
took the mound for Windham in the top of the
second inning. Herzig was also returning to
the diamond after taking the spring off from
little league. Herzig also walked the first
batter he faced, John Fogg before striking
out Cullen McIntyre. Nate Rutherford hit an
RBI single . Herzig got hot and struck out
the next two batters he faced.
Fogg took the
mound again for Saco. Tyler Grant worked a
full count before earning a walk to lead off
the bottom of the second inning. Sbardella
moved Grant to third when he grounded out to
Fogg. Bernier was working a 2-2 count when
Grant was tagged out trying to score on a
passed ball.
Windham led
4-1 at the end of two innings.

Hunter Coffin
took the mound for Windham in the top of the
third inning and struck out the first batter
he faced. Dylan Paquette and McLeer drew
walks before Coffin struck out Hurten for
the second out. Nick Houde slapped an RBI
single and Fogg walked. Saco had plated
three runs to tie the game 4-4 before
Sbardella came on to get McIntyre to ground
out 1-3 to end the inning.
Bernier was
back at the plate with a fresh new count to
lead off the bottom of the third. He hit a
3-0 pitch back to Fogg who was still on the
mound for Saco. Coffin watched Fogg throw
four straight balls for a walk that ended
Fogg's outing. McIntyre came on in relief.
Mike Woods popped out to McIntyre and
Mitchell Delcourt slapped what appeared to
be a single until the short stop made a
great throw to barely beat Delcourt to first
base.

The game
remained deadlocked 4-4 at the end of three
innings.
Sbardella
returned to the mound in the fourth inning.
He struck out Nate Rutherford for the first
out and then made a great play on a grounder
to throw out Jack Ciancette at first.
Sbardella retired his fourth consecutive
batter by striking out Colby Vachon to end
the top of the fourth inning.
Spaulding led
off the bottom of the fourth inning with a
double up the middle. "Kung Fu Panda" Grover
moved him to third on a 4-3 ground out and
Tyler Thornton drove Spaulding in for the go
ahead run on a 1-3 ground out.
Windham led
5-4 at the end of four innings.
Thornton took
the mound for Windham in the top of the
fifth and retired the side in order by
striking out the only three batters he
faced.

Ryan
Sargent at the plate.
Ryan Sargent
led off the bottom of the fifth with a sharp
hit to short stop who made another great
throw to barely beat Sargent to first base.
Herzig drove a deep fly ball to left field
for the final out of the inning.
Windham
continued to lead 5-4 at the end of five
innings.
Bernier came
on to pitch in the top of the sixth. Bernier
struck out the first two batters he faced
before Mitchell Delcourt made an outstanding
diving catch to his left to end the game.
Windham
continues their summer schedule this weekend
at Scarborough.
