The game was closely
contested throughout, as neither team secured a lead
of greater than 8 points and the GNAC rivals swapped
leads on six occasions. St. Joe’s three times, with
two such occurrences coming in the final three
minutes of the game.
The Monks trailed by
six, 55-49, with 4:39 remaining, but a layup by Geel,
two freebies from Megan McDevitt ’12 (Cumberland,
ME) and a fastbreak layup by Casey Drake ’11
(Lebanon, NH) knotted the game at 55-apiece with
2:20 to go.
The Wildcats received
buckets from Allyson Dowen and Morgan Wilson over
the next 1:40, but Daigle neutralized the lead with
a pair of baskets and the game stood at a 59-59
stalemate with 28 seconds on the game clock. With
four seconds left, Daigle fouled Marina Millian, who
missed the first attempt but drained the second to
provide her team with a slim 60-59 conference win.
