Portland-Catherine McAuley put together
ten hits and a key stolen base to upset
Cheverus 13-12.
Windham
resident and McAuley Junior Jen Field
stole home when Cheverus pitcher Theresa
Hendrix looked away while she had the
ball. That play fired up the Lions who
started the inning down by eight runs.
Field then batted again and drove in the
tying run and scored the winning run on
a Kayla Daigle single.

Cheverus
started the game with Hendrix cranking a
home run and then had three other
batters scoring to put McAuley in the
hole. It appeared that McAuley pitcher
Jen Field was throwing batting practice
through the game.
McAuley’s
defense committed six errors which did
little to stifle the scoring onslaught
the Stags had. Cheverus’ third baseman,
Anna Snook, led the Stags with four
runs.

In the
seventh, all but one of the McAuley
roster scored runs. It took eight
singles and one double to generate the
scoring for the Lions. The upset gives
McAuley a large pool of Heal points to
start the season.
McAuley’s
next game is Monday at Bonny Eagle.
