Starting
the game, Senior Hannah Goodale
demonstrated her skill as a seasoned
pitcher by retiring three of four
batters and stranding one. In the
bottom of the first, freshman Gabby
Townsend took the rubber for the McAuley
Lions. Gabby, despite her small stature
and underclassman rank, quickly mirrored
Goodale’s performance. After allowing
one hit, Townsend struck out the next
three batters.

In the top
of the third, the Lions started at the
top of their line-up. Shelby Bryant and
Amber Libby both reached base. Sam
Schildroth drove in Bryant with a ground
rule double. Sara Mercier sacrificed in
Libby to give McAuley the 2-0 lead. In
the bottom of the third, McAuley’s
defense stifled the Scot’s attack. With
one out, Townsend walked Brooke
VanRosendael. VanRosendael moved to
second on a sacrifice bunt. With
Brittany Murray at the plate,
VanRosendael attempted to steal third.
Amber Libby gunned her down with Allina
Verrillo’s fine catch and tag to end the
inning.

In the
sixth inning, the Lions were hungry for
more runs and got them. Allina Verillo
drew a walk and Molly Mack pinch ran for
her. Kayla Daigle stepped to the plate
and crushed a ball to the right-center
field gap doubling McAuley’s score.
McAuley continued the assault by
peppering the Scot defense with hits,
causing an error and allowing another
run. With bases loaded, Sam Schildroth
drove in Mary Redmond to finish up the
scoring.
So, with
six defensive outs to go, the freshman
Townsend went to work. She retired the
next 6 batters in order with her defense
perfect behind her and recorded two
strikeouts.
