Freeport ME: The
Windham fifth grade boys basketball team came up
short in 25-23 loss to Saco.
Tommy Leavitt put the
first four points on the score board for Windham.
Chris Brown followed with four points of his own to
bring Windham to a 13-8 halftime deficit.

Windham battled back
in the second half. Mitchell Delcourt made it 10-13
before Brown hit another basket to bring Windham to
within one point. Austin McGowan was fouled while
shooting. He hit one of his two free throws to tie
the game at 13-13.
Chris Brown's scored
another basket and the score was deadlocked again at
15-15. Then Saco went on a 8-0 run that gave them
their biggest lead of the game at 21-15.

Windham battled back
by going on an 8-0 run of their own. Delcourt
started the run with a two-pointer, followed by
Brown who hit double digits with another
two-pointer. Ethan Spaulding hit a shot to bring
Windham within two points, 21-23. Then Cameron
Hoffses pulled down an offensive rebound and put in
the tying basket to make the score 23-23.
Saco answered with a
basket to take the 25-23 point lead. Saco had the
opportunity to extend their lead when their shooter
was fouled with 30 seconds left in regulation, he
missed both shots and Windham was still within one
score.

Windham gained
possession with five seconds left on the clock.
Leavitt passed the ball inbounds to Delcourt whose
shot was blocked and Saco claimed victory in this
exciting game.
Brown led Windham with
10 points and 12 rebounds, Leavitt had four points
and eight rebounds, Delcourt had four points and
three rebounds. Hoffses had two points and four
rebounds, Spaulding had two points and three
rebounds, McGowan had one point and five rebounds.
Ezra Boynton, Jacob Frost and Ben McDonald all
chipped in with one rebound each. |
