Windham ME: The fifth
grade boys basketball team improved to 2-2 with
their 36-30 win over Falmouth1 at Windham Middle
School.
The game started out
even as the two teams played to 8-8 tie midway
through the first half until Falmouth pulled ahead
14-8, their largest lead of the game.

Windham dug in
defensively and started closing the gap. Trailing
14-13 with under 10 seconds left in the half Tommy
Leavitt pulled down the rebound and got the ball to
Austin McGowan. McGowan headed up court and looked
up to see Ethan Spaulding streaking to the hoop.
With four seconds left McGowan passed the ball to
Spaulding who caught the pass over his shoulder like
a wide receiver would in a football game and got off
a layup right before the buzzer sounded. The layup
was good and Windham took a 15-14 lead into
halftime.

Windham extended the
lead to 18-16 in the second half before several lead
changes got the score even at 24-24 midway through
the second half. Windham went ahead 25-24 before
Falmouth went ahead 28-25 for their final lead of
the game.

Windham rallied back
with key baskets coming from big men Chris Brown and
Tommy Leavitt and strong defense from Mitchell

Chris Brown led the
team in scoring with 17 points (six redounds) and
Tommy Leavitt scored 6 points and pulled down a team
leading eight rebounds. McGowan added four points
and six rebounds and Spaulding had four points and
three rebounds. Charlie Alpern and Ben McDonald
chipped in with two points each and Delcourt added
one point.
Cameron Hoffses had
four rebounds, Delcourt had two and McDonald ended
with one. |
