Windham’s
aggressive defense and ability to work
the ball carried them in their 50-45
victory over Scarborough at Windham MS
Monday afternoon. This team had always
known that they could play ball against
the Red Storm. Today they proved it.

In the
first quarter, points didn’t come easy
for either team. Windham’s aggressive
defensive unit of Calvin Field, Joe
Francoeur, Christian Coons, Jordin Allen
and Brad Carpentier worked hard to limit
the Red Storm. Windham got on the board
first after three minutes of play. Once
the dam was broken, the Eagles swarmed
and quickly got up by 8. Scarborough’s
top players also got into early foul
trouble as the whistles came
frequently. However, Scarborough found
the net and slowly put a few more in the
basket. Windham finished the first
quarter with a five point lead.

At first
the Windham second quarter squad
couldn’t put the defensive clamps on the
Storm and couldn’t make a basket. After
a few jogs up and down the court, the
Eagles got into the game and really
started playing hard. The group of Jake
Perry, Shawn Francoeur, Hawreh Haddadi,
Tom McGowan and Spencer Noel put
together a string of 12 twelve points
while holding Scarborough to 10. At the
half, Windham led 23-16.

Up to this
point, Windham had played almost
constant full court press. Scarborough
sporadically countered with it, but
really used it in the third and fourth
quarters. Windham was able to force
turnovers and capitalize. It seemed
Scarborough wasn’t used to the
aggressive defense and Windham was
getting more confident with each minute
that rolled off the clock. At the end
of the third quarter, Windham had scored
12, Scarborough 10.

Scarborough really stepped up its play
in the fourth quarter. They managed to
get within four points before Calvin
Field blocked a shot and dribbled coast
to coast to put an easy layup in.
Windham’s full court press then caused
and capitalized on two turnovers.
Scarborough then was called for fouls
that put a few Eagles at the line.
Those free throws added insurance as the
Windham Eagles celebrated a huge home
victory against the Red Storm of
Scarborough 50-45.
Congratulations to the Eagle team!
