Wells ME: Windham's
9/10 year old travel baseball team tied Cape
Elizabeth 6-6 in the Travel League's tournament
being held in Wells.
Mitchell Delcourt led
off the game with a walk but Cape's pitcher retired
the next three batters in order.
Delcourt took the
mound for Windham in the bottom of the inning.
Second baseman Evan Millet fielded a grounder and
threw out the first batter. Delcourt struck out the
second batter before Millet fielded another grounder
for the final out of the inning.
Giovanni Ruotolo led
off the second with a double to center field. Caleb
Klowas followed with a walk. Both runners advanced
on two passed balls, the second one scoring Ruotolo.
Spencer Watkins drew a 1-out walk. A passed ball
with Millet at the plate allowed Klowas to score and
advanced Watkins to third base. JT Russell earned a
2-out walk while Watkins and Millett both scored on
a series of passed balls.
Delcourt took the
mound again in the second and got the first batter
to pop out to third baseman Tanner Bernier. The next
four batters walked, scoring one run before the
second out was recorded when Ruotolo recovered a
passed ball and beat the cape runner to the plate.
Two more runs would score before Millet fielded a
grounder and flipped it to SS Dana Nichols for the
final out of the inning.
Delcourt led off the
third inning with his second walk of the game,
followed by a long single by Bernier which resulted
in Delcourt getting caught in a rundown between
second and third base. Nichols drew a 2-out walk
while Bernier scored on a passed ball. Ruotolo
followed with a single that moved Nichols to second
base. Nichols and Ruotolo advanced two bases on
consecutive passed balls, the second one scoring
Nichols.
The third inning
brought a pitching change for Windham. Ethan
Spaulding took the mound and made quick work of
Cape. He struck out the first batter on three
pitches. The second batter hit a pop fly to third
baseman Hunter Coffin and Spaulding fielded a ground
ball and threw to first for the final out of the
inning.
Spaulding led off the
fourth by walking from the right side of the plate.
Coffin drew a two out walk. The inning ended with
Coffin at second and Spaulding at third.
Cape came back in the
fourth inning. Spaulding gave up a lead off walk,
followed by a single, and then another walk. He
struck out the next batter and Ruotolo made a nice
catch on a short pop up in front of the plate for
the second inning. The next batter hit a ball down
the first base line that Spaulding raced to field
but the ball went out of play scoring two of the
three Cape runs in the inning. First baseman Ben
Brooks recorded the unassisted play at first for the
final out of the inning.
The game ended in a
tie because it had already gone 30 minutes into the
next scheduled game. |
