WINDHAM ME: The
Windham 9/10 year old travel baseball team defeated
Scarborough 17-8 at Lowell Farm Field on Wednesday
evening.
Windham's Ethan
Spaulding made the start on the mound, retiring the
first three batters of the game in order.
Scarborough's first batter grounded the ball back to
Spaulding who threw to first for the out. The next
two batters grounded to third baseman Tanner Bernier
who threw both runners out at first.

Matt Guerrette got the
start for Scarborough and got off to a rough start
when Windham's first four batters reached base.
Mitchell Delcourt lead off with a single and Tanner
Bernier followed with a single of his own. Trevor
Crowley followed with a 2RBI single to score
Delcourt and Bernier. Dana Nichols drove the next
pitch to center field scoring Crowley. Caleb Klowas
followed with a hit and JT Russell earned a walk.
Dana Nichols stole home on a passed ball with Tyler
Grant at the plate. The summer travel league has a
five run per inning limit so Nichol's run ended the
first inning with Grant still at the plate.
Spaulding picked up in
the second where he left off in the first, striking
out the first two batters before getting the third
batter of the inning to fly out to second base.

Tyler Grant came to
bat in the bottom of the second inning and worked a
full count walk. An out later, Hunter Coffin walked.
Grant and Coffin both advanced two bases on two
passed balls, the second one scoring Grant and
moving Coffin to third before Evan Millet walked.
Tommy McAvoy followed with an RBI single to
complete the scoring in the second inning.
Spaulding saw his
perfect game end when he walked the first batter and
his no hitter go when the second batter reached on
an infield hit. He struck out the next batter, and
the following batter recorded an RBI on a fielders
choice to second base. Spaulding ended the inning
and his outing by striking out the final batter of
the inning. The summer league limits a pitcher to
three innings in a game.

Crowley led off the
third inning with a walk, followed by a walk by
Nichols. The next batter, Givovanni Ruotolo was hit
by a pitch on the ankle and was awarded first base.
Nichols stole home for the second time in the game
on a passed ball that also advanced Crowely to third
base. Klowas followed with an RBI single. JT Russell
worked his second walk of the game before
Tyler Green grounded out to first to drive in a run.
When the next batter,
Spaulding came to bat; manager Mike Russell called
him over for a private conversation. When the right
handed hitter returned to the plate he went to the
left side of the plate. Coach Russell had learned
that Spaulding regularly practices switch hitting at
home and he was giving him his first opportunity to
hit lefty in a game. He gave him the bunt sign but
Spaulding didn't see any pitches to his liking and
drew a two-out walk.

McAvoy got the call to
start the fourth inning on the mound. It was the
first stint on the mound this year for the
exceptional catcher. Mitchell Declourt came in
to relieve McAvoy and retired the first two batters
he faced before Scarborough plated their fifth run
of the inning. The first out was a great play by
catcher Bernier who caught a short soft blooper
right in front of the plate.
Evan Millet led off
the Windham fourth with a walk and McAvoy followed
with another walk. Declourt grounded out but
collected his second RBI of the game scoring Millett
on the play. Bernier followed with a walk and McAvoy
stole home on a passed ball. Nichols hit a two out
single before Ruotolo recorded an RBI single. Klowas
followed with a walk before the end of the inning.
Delcourt cruised
through the fifth inning, beginning with a great
catch in left field by Hunter Coffin before getting
the next two batters to ground out to short stop.
Grant led off the
Windham half of the fifth with a single. Coach
Russell once again gave the switch-hitting Spaulding
an opportunity to try to bunt from the left side of
the plate. Spaulding drew another walk. Coffin
walked to the load the bases and Millet drew a bases
loaded walk for the RBI. McAvoy reached on a
fielder's choice that saw Spaulding forced out at
home plate. Bernier drew a bases loaded walk to
drive in another run.
Evan Millet took the
mound for Windham in the sixth inning. Scarborough
scored two runs in the inning before Millet recorded
a strike out for the second out of the inning. With
one strike on the next batter lightning flashed in
the sky and the game was called for weather.
The Summer travel
league concludes their season with a tournament in
Wells this weekend.
