On a very
chilly morning, the Windham Eagles
stopped the Portland Bulldogs in JV
Football 20-6 at Fitzpatrick Stadium.
The game
started with Windham kicking to
Portland. The Eagle defense started
strong and was called upon much of the
game to keep Portland from scoring. On
the first Bulldog possession, Windham
forced Portland to punt. However, the
ball contacted a Windham player and
Portland took possession on the Eagle 32
yard line. Portland struggled against
the defense and on fourth and 20, they
decided to go for the conversion.
Windham’s Kevin Fitzgerald stepped up
and intercepted the Bulldog pass to
finally give Windham possession at the
end of the first quarter.

The second
quarter did not start well for the
Eagles as the ball was fumbled and
Portland recovered. The Eagle defense
again was called on to stop the
Bulldogs. On fourth down and three
yards to go, the Eagles jumped offside
and Portland got the easy first down on
the Eagle 14 yard line. In the next set
of downs, Windham’s defense again was
strong and took possession after four
downs at their own 14. Colby Waterhouse
checked in at quarterback and took the
first snap 39 yards to give the Eagles
their first first down in the game. A
few plays later, Max McDonald found the
end zone for the Eagles. Colby
Waterhouse ran the two point conversion
to give Windham the 8-0 lead with four
minutes left in the half.

On the
kick off, Max McDonald recovered the
fumble to give the Eagles possession at
the Bulldog 25 yard line. The Eagles
wasted no time in scoring as Colby
Waterhouse found Drew Gagnon on the left
side to put another six on the board.
The two point conversion would be
stopped by Portland. Even though
Portland dominated possession in the
first half, Windham found itself on top
14-0.
The second
half saw Christian Coons fumble on the
second play and give the Portland
Bulldogs possession on the Eagle 40 yard
line. Once again, Windham’s defense
came in and only allowed 15 yards before
they got the ball back on their own 25.
Max McDonald quickly advanced up the
field by gaining on a 40 yard carry. He
eventually would score on a five yard
scamper to put the Eagles up 20-0.
However, Portland was not done.

After the
kick off, Portland started on their own
20. The Bulldog quarterback broke free
and was stopped in Eagle territory. The
bulldogs then put together a string of
running plays and on fourth down, the
quarterback found a receiver deep in the
end zone corner to put six on the board
for the home team. The weary Windham
defense stopped the two point
conversion.

Windham
took possession after the kick off and
Portland’s defense keyed on a TD O’Brien
pass and intercepted it. Portland
started on the Eagle 30 yard line. In a
familiar position, the Windham defense
held strong and took possession. Dylan
Henry broke free and scampered across
mid-field to get the Eagles out of their
own zone. Windham would manage the
clock and keep the ball on the ground to
end the game.

Eagle Freshman squad Monday at 3:30pm at
