Windham
ME: Calvin Field scored six points in
overtime to lead Windham First
Basketball Team to a 52-50 over Sanford
in overtime.
The game
featured a physical battle in which both
teams kept the scoring very equal. With
whistles deep in their pockets, the
officials let the Sanford Redskins and
the Windham Eagles let it all hang out
on the court.

In the
first quarter, Jake Perry came off the
bench for Windham to lead Windham with
four points, and three others chipped in
to give Windham ten points. Windham
finished the quarter down by one point.
The second
quarter, Joe Francoeur put in a pair of
baskets with five others putting in
hoops to give the Eagles 14. Windham
hit the locker room with the game tied
at 24. Both teams were using man to man
defense and neither was doing a great
job on the transition game. Whistles
for fouls were few, with Windham having
5 and Sanford having 3 at the half.

In the
third quarter, the physical play
continued but no team really took
control. Shawn Francoeur dumped a
beautiful three-pointer and had help
from a handful of team mates to give the
Eagles eleven points. However, Sanford
answered with twelve to take the one
point lead into the final quarter.
The fourth
quarter was the lowest scoring for the
Eagles but their baskets outnumbered the
Redskins to force the overtime. The
scrappy play continued and the
frustrations built on the court as the
whistles started to blow more often.
Sanford had one player with four fouls
at the end of regulation and he
continued to play despite his looming
penalty. The final buzzer sounded and
the scored was knotted. Sanford would
have 2 time outs going into the overtime
and Windham had five.

The
overtime session was marked for four
minutes. To sum it up, with 13.8
seconds left, Windham was ahead by 2
points. On an inbounds play, Joe
Francoeur drew a foul. He hit the first
and missed the second. The ball went
out of bounds and Windham was awarded
possession. On the inbounds play,
Calvin Field got the ball and put in the
quick basket to give the Eagles the five
point lead. Field had previously hit a
layup, been fouled and hit both free
throws. With eight seconds on the
clock, Sanford came down the court and
lobbed the ball in the air and hit the
three point shot as time expired, but
the effort was too little too late for
the Redskins.
The Eagles
First Team is looking to face an
opponent over the holiday break. That
contest is TBD.
