FRIDAY GAME 1
As luck
would have it, the guys were drawn for
an eight o’clock start on Saturday
morning against Biddeford. Some of the
kids on the Biddeford team played
football in the SMYFL Championship game
too. It seems the loss must have
carried over because they spared no time
in quickly taking it to the Eagles, who
looked like they hadn’t even gotten out
of bed to play. They finally woke up
and managed to bring the score to 28-29
at the half.
Biddeford
wasted no time in the second half and
managed to put the Eagles down 61-37.
Leading scorers for Windham were Isaac
Gurney with 1 and Hawreh Haddadi with
11.
FRIDAY GAME 2
Game 2 was
just an over an hour later against a
Cape Elizabeth team these players have
seen before. Awake and refreshed with
breakfast and liquids, the Eagles and
the Capers came out with stifling
defenses and quick runs down the court.
The half time score was even at 12.
The low
scoring effort continued to the end of
the game. With Cape up by two points
and three seconds left on the clock,
Isaac Gurney stole an inbounds pass and
dribbled down the left side and laid in
the tying layup to force overtime.
In the
overtime, little scoring was done. As
time clicked by, Cape had the lead until
Calvin Field stole the ball and passed
to a sprinting Brad Carpentier who put
in another tying basket for the Eagle
squad. However, how long could Windham
keep doing the last minute basket drill?
In the
second overtime, the boys on both sides
started showing their weariness and
fouls started being called. The game
ended with the score 32-31, as Cape
managed one free throw more than the
Eagles. The Eagles shot 7 for 24 at the
line and that fact really stands out as
the difference in this game. Leading
scorers were Hawreh Haddadi with 11,
Brad Carpentier with 6 and Isaac Gurney
and Calvin Field with 5 each.
SATURDAY GAME 1
After
sleeping in, the Eagles took the court
at 2:15 against Scarborough.
Scarborough wasted no time putting
points on the board as the Eagles again
started slow. At the half, they were
down 37-11.
The second
half saw a more aggressive squad hit the
floor. It seems that going to the hoop
strong paid off as they shot more
quality shots and appeared at the line
more often. If we looked at only the
second half score, Windham won 32-23,
however, games are based on two halves
and they ended up losing 60-43. Jake
Perry led the Eagles with 12 points
followed by Spencer Noel with 8 and
Colby Waterhouse and Calvin Field each
had 6.
SATURDAY GAME 2
Game two
on Saturday saw Windham just jump out
against Cumberland after playing the
aggressive second half against
Scarborough. This team went up 29-12
against them and never looked back.
Cumberland
went into double bonus in each half and
had two technical fouls called against
them in the second half.
After a
pretty chippy game, the Eagles finished
56-21 against the Cumberland squad.
Leading scorers were Hawreh Haddadi with
18, Calvin Field with 12 and Jake Perry
and Spencer Noel each had 6. All nine
players put points on the board for
Windham
