3rd/4th Grade Travel Basketball Team Gains Valuable Experience

By Karen Leavitt

3/4 gradeTravel Basketball pick up team is Coached by Stacy Batchelder and Cole Leavitt  - Stacy is the master behind all the plays, she is a great coach and does an excellent job of running the practices.   Cole knows the game of basketball and gives the kids very specific direction in the games.

Gene Gumaer noted that when he does what Coach Cole says does, it works.   There is a lot of respect between the players and the coaches on this team and it shows in their stellar performance each week.

They have two teams of five that each play very well together as follows:

4th graders
Ross Batchelder
Patrick Leavitt
Connor Daigle
Kyle Kilfoil
3rd grader
Christopher Brown

4th graders
Gene Gumaer
Brandon Drouin
Anthony Salinas
Spencer Sampson
3rd grader
Tommy Leavitt

The team which has to contain at least 2 3rd graders practices on Wed night and plays 2 games on Sunday at the Falmouth High School.   Peter Brown volunteers to referee at each of the games and does a great job of minimizing the clock running down and still ensuring that the kids understand the call and learn from the experience.  The competition is intense but the Windham travel team can hold their own to any team the second half of the season.    Sunday are the last games and after the last game Falmouth has invited Windham to be part of the award ceremony.

Sunday will be a busy day for the Batchelder/Leavitt teams after playing two games in Falmouth they will play 4 more games in the rec tournament but they are all so ready as they love the game of basketball!!
