7TH GRADE BOYS FALL TO SCARBOROUGH IN FINAL
MINUTE

In the
previous two contests, Scarborough was able
to pull away from the Windham squad and win
by 10+ points in both contests. The third go
around proved to be one of the most exciting
games of the year, as the Windham squad gave
Scarborough all they could handle. The game
quickly swayed to Windham's favor as they
really came out fired up, building on an
impressive win vs. Gorham the previous game.
Joe Francoeur scored eight of his team high
and season high 18 points in the first
quarter. Calvin Field, Cole Moran, Jordin
Allen, Dylan Weisser, and Christian Coons
along with Francoeur raced out to a 14-5
lead in the first quarter as the boys
continued to play spectacular defense.
Scarborough responded in the second quarter
as their star player, #23, was able to score
12 of the teams 14 points in the quarter
while shutting down the Windham squad
consisting of Spencer Noel, Jake Perry,
Hawreh Haddadi, Gabe Purves, and Shawn
Francoeur along with Coons. Offensively,
Windham was only able to muster four points
as Scarborough applied pressure in the
backcourt that the boys had trouble
handling.
"It was really a tale of two quarters. I
could not have been more pleased with the
way we came out of the gate, on the road
none-the-less.
Defensively I was pleased with the effort in
the first half. 12 points came from one
player, yet we were able to shut the rest of
the team down.
Offensively, we really forced the issue in
the second quarter and settled for difficult
shots," said Coach Manzo.
After Scarborough was able to extend the
lead to eight points early in the fourth
quarter, it looked like they were on their
way to pulling away.
However, that was not the case. Windham
mounted a comeback and was able to cut the
game to 38-36 heading into the final minute
of play. After a costly Scarborough
turnover, Joe Francoeur was able to get a
good look under the hoop and tie the game at
38 with a little more than 20 seconds
remaining in the game. After a Scarborough
timeout, they came out and set a high pick
for #23. He got around the pick and Shawn
Francoeur was called for a foul, sending him
to the charity stripe with 2.9 seconds left
in the game. He missed the first and made
the second, giving him a game high 26 points
on the afternoon and led to a Windham
timeout. Windham was able to inbound the
ball but could not get a good enough look
and fell in a very intense game, 39-38.
"I could not have been more happy with the
way my boys played today. We knew we had a
shot at avenging those losses and really
wanted this game bad.
We forced them to become a one man show, as
#23 scored 26 of their 39 points. I don't
think Scarborough expected us to come out
and give them all they could ask for. I only
wish we could get one more crack at them,"
said Coach Manzo.
