What does
this mean? Well, when a swim team has
six members to swim twelve events and
three of those are four-member relays,
the options available are very limited.
Depth in this example is number of
swimmers, not feet in the pool. Four of
the six participants on Saturday are
seasoned swimmers. In all, Windham has
eight swimmers, but due to the holiday,
were missing a few.
With the
foundation laid, Deering defeated
Windham 100 to 55 in their Saturday
night meet. However, the demonstration
of talent was superb as the Windham boys
managed to take first if not second in
most of their events. What is missing
is having other swimmers in other lanes
to add points in each event. Simply
taking first in most events will not win
meets.
Recapping the
events:
200m Medley Relay:
Lance Webster, Nathan Paluso, Alex
Gilvey and Bryndon Page placed first
with a time of 2:09.40.

100m Butterfly:

Tom
Beaudoin catches his breath as Alex
Gilvey looks at the time board after
swimming the 100m Backstroke. Beaudoin,
who lives in Windham, attends Casco Bay
HS and swims for Deering, placed third
behind Gilvey, who was just touched out.

100m Backstroke:
Alex Gilvey placed second with a time of
1:13.23 (the winner’s time was .24
second ahead of Alex.)
400 Free Relay:
Alex Gilvey, Bryndon Page, Lance Webster
and Nathan Paluso placed second with a
time of 4:18.14
So, we
missed listing two swimmers who did
finish races and helped the Eagle
effort. However, listed are only nine
events. Think of the possibilities with
a few more swimmers……… This Eagle squad
is talented and just needs a few
interested kids to devote time to the
pool and become finned Eagles! J
Congratulations to all.
