Windham 5th grade travel team wins again!

March 2, 2008

The 5th grade boys travel basketball team took another step towards a championship with a 37-18 win over 2nd seeded Topsham in Freeport today.

Windham won the rematch of the Scarborough Holiday tournament championship game which Topsham had won 57-42. Topsham had also beaten Windham 45-37 just two days earlier in that double elimination tournament.

What a difference a couple months can make. Windham is now at full strength and playing as a team every time they hit the court. The great team effort was evident today as they shut down a Topsham team that scores 50+ points a game.

The top three teams during the regular season; Windham (3rd seed), Topsham (2nd seed) and Scarborough1 (1st seed) all finished the regular season with 9-1 records.

Windham will face top seeded Scarborough1 at noon on Saturday March 8, 2008 At Freeport High School. They are the only two remaining teams from the winners bracket.

Great Job 5th grade travel team. Excellent job Josh Dugas!

It was a great game to watch as many of the players got into the scoring. The kids played great, but Josh Dugas was a stand out on both sides of the ball. I have been to nearly all of the games this years and never have I seen the boys play defence any better.

GREAT JOB!!!!

Congratulations to the entire team. I thought this was the most complete team win I have seen all season. All the kids had a moment where they made a key play that contributed to the win.

It is nice to see this late in the season, that different kids each game seem to step up there game and take advantage of the opportunity to shine.

What was most impressive to me was the way they moved the ball down the court by passing, which led to several lay ups and a big early lead.

As always, defense wins championships so stay wide, stay low, and tenacious.

Good luck this weekend!
