The Charlotte
Sting won the WYBA Girls Senior League
championship 30-12 over the Los Angeles
Sparks on Sunday March 9, 2008 at Windham
High School.
The teams knew
each other well coming into the game, having
faced each other four times throughout the
season. Each game resulting in a one point
victory for the Sparks.
The Sparks
came into the game with only one loss on the
season. The lost to the Sacramento Monarchs
in the regular season before eliminating
them in the first round of the playoffs.
Prior to the
game the players and fans observed a moment
of silence to remember Sparks Assistant
Coach Bob Beauchene who passed away during
the season. Bob was a fixture at his
daughters' (Miranda and Danielle) sporting
events and a positive role model for all the
kids he coached.

Sparks Player
Sam Frank said, "My favorite part of the
season was having Bob as the assistant coach
and I enjoyed Coach Keith. I also had a
blast with my teammates."
Bob's daughter
Miranda is a player on the Sparks and said
her favorite thing about this season was
"Our team doing as well as we did and
getting further than we did last year. I
feel we played really well as a team."
Team work was
a sentiment shared by other players. A great
thing to hear from our student athletes in a
time when so many professional athletes
point out how much they mean to their team's
success.
Charlotte
Stings player Payson Cary said "My favorite
part of the season was that we worked as a
team."
Another Stings
player, Katelyn Tucker added, "The best
thing that happened during the season was
inning the championship, :) we have worked
so hard and been making new plays so we
could beat that team for once I must say we
had a great game and we on it for one of our
ill teammates."
Congratulations to both teams on a great
season! |
