Windham-On a soggy field and
mild temperature afternoon, Windham MS football
continued their dominance in
SMYFL in defeating number two seed Saco 27-6
to claim the first gold ball in Windham football
history.

early in the game. Waterhouse would have 20
carries for 104 yards. Photo by David Field
Windham won the
toss and elected to receive the ball. However,
the Junior Trojan defense made short work of the
possession stopping the Eagle offense and
forcing a punt. Damien Shepard
(AOW)
launched a
rocket that had the Trojans start from their own
four yard line. Windham’s defense also stood
strong and forced the Trojans to punt. The punt
was short and Windham took possession at the 24
yard line. Windham quickly took advantage with a

20 yard touchdown
run and
Shawn Francoeur
(AOW)
added the PAT kick to give Windham the lead 7-0.

After the Eagle kick off,
Windham’s defense held Saco and force them to
punt. The punt was short and Windham took over
on the 42 yard line. On third and 20, Windham
ran a reverse play that Damien Shepard
(AOW)
ran to the end zone. However, a block in the
back penalty brought the ball back. Windham
ended up punting on fourth and very long. Saco
took control on their own 48.

Windham’s defense, as we know
so well, controlled the play and forced the
punt. On first and ten from their own 31,
Colby Waterhouse
(AOW)
dashes for an apparent touchdown. Again, a
block in the back penalty called the ball back.
Windham ended up punting the ball away. Saco
took over on their own 30. On first down,
Josh Rickett picked up the loose ball and
Windham took possession deep in Trojan
territory.
Colby Waterhouse bulled in a one yard
touchdown and the PAT kick missed wide.

After the kick off, Saco went
to the air. Windham was again flagged, but this
time for pass interference to give the Trojans
great field position. Saco went to the air and
scored their only touchdown. Windham’s defense
stuffed the two point conversion.
Windham received the kick and
took control with little time left in the half.
Colby Waterhouse
(AOW)
attempted to hit Damien Shepard
(AOW)
on a halfback pass to have it intercepted with
1.8 seconds left on the clock. Saco came out
and did a hail Mary pass that was picked off by
Calvin Field
(AOW)
to end the quarter.

game. Photo by David Field
In the second quarter, Saco
took possession and Windham got the ball on
downs at their own 28. Windham put together a
very productive series and got to the Saco 30
and fumbled the ball. Saco put together their
own productive possession and made it to the
Eagle 25. The Eagle defense buckled down and
stopped the drive on 4th and 10.

Windham mixed up its offense
and went to man in motion. After advancing the
ball,
Calvin Field
(AOW)
found Damien Shepard
(AOW)
after being in motion for a 45 yard pass
completion for a touchdown. The PAT kick missed
but Windham led 19-6.

After the kick off, Windham’s
defense swarmed like coyotes on a fresh kill and
forced fourth down and 30 yards. Saco opted to
attempt to convert with a pass play and was
foiled. Windham took over on the Saco 25.
After a few plays,
Colby Waterhouse
(AOW)
took a hand off ten yards and
then added the two point conversion to put the
Eagles up 27-6 with just over a minute to play.

On the kick off, Saco
mishandled the ball and Windham recovered.
Calvin Field
(AOW)
took two knees to finish the game for the
Eagles.
Congratulations to the
Windham MS Eagle Football team for winning the
SMYFL Championship.
