Saco ME: Windham made significant adjustments to
defeat the Junior Trojans 27-12 in
SMYFL action today. Additionally, Windham
sealed home field playoff advantage in the playoffs
with its win today. Both teams had done plenty of
scouting of each other so nothing was a secret on
the field. However, Windham’s powerful lines coupled
with its ability to put together well blocking
running attacks put the game in their favor.

It
seemed that Saco won the toss and refused to receive
and Windham received the opening kick off. They
started on their own 40 yard line. After a few
plays, two face mask penalties against the Trojans
moved the Eagles quickly down field.
Colby Waterhouse
(AOW)
found the end zone to put the Eagles up 6-0. The
PAT kick bounced off the post.

On
Saco’s first possession, they gained two first downs
and then were held to force a fourth down. Saco
opted to try the conversion and Windham’s defense
loomed large by sacking the quarterback to force
possession in their favor.
Windham started from the Saco 40 and quickly moved
up-field. On first and ten from the 20,
Calvin Field called the keeper and went the
distance to put the Eagles up 12-0. Windham was
called for holding on the two point conversion and
had to try from the 13 and was stopped.

In
an aggressive move, Windham had Cody King kick an
onside kick which the Eagles recovered. However,
Saco wasted no time and sacked quarterback
Calvin Field to force a fumble and they
recovered.
Turnabout is fair play and shortly thereafter,
Josh Rickett recovered a fumble on a Saco option
play to give the Eagles possession.
Windham would again fumble and Saco took
possession. They quickly converted by passing to
#85 to gain great field position. #19 Josh Cyr ran
in the touchdown for the Junior Trojans. Windham’s
defense stopped the two point conversion.

After the kick off, Windham was very methodical in
moving the ball. The Eagles faced fourth and five
and a pitch to
Waterhouse was then a half back pass to Shepard
(AOW)
for
a 25 yard gain to give the Eagles first down. Time
ran out on the Eagle possession to end the half.

After the kick off, Saco didn’t take long to put
another touchdown on the board. The Eagles haven’t
been used to touchdowns being scored against them.
It took two passing plays to put six points on the
board for the Trojans. Windham’s defense would stop
the two point conversion.

Windham took possession after the kick off and moved
well.
Colby Waterhouse took a long advance and was
apparently tackled but the ball came loose and Saco
recovered. The Eagle defense stepped up to the
challenge and on third down,
Josh Rickett sacked the quarterback to force a
fourth down with long yardage deep in the Trojan
zone. On the punt attempt, it seemed the kicker
wanted to find a receiver. Instead,
Jared Libby and
Matt Aldrich tackled him to record the safety.

Windham took advantage of the possession and ran
play after play burning up the clock. Christian
Coons found the end zone to give the Eagles 20
points.
Shawn Francoeur kicked the PAT to give the
Eagles the 21-12 lead.

Colby Waterhouse kicked the ball off and it
resulted in a touchback. Saco took over on its own
20. The Eagle’s defense was solid and forced Saco
to punt and took over on the Trojan 36. After a few
plays,
Colby Waterhouse rumbled for 25 yards, shaking
off three defenders to record Windham’s final
touchdown. Tyler Pennanen was stopped on the two
point conversion.

The Eagles got close to the end zone but ended up
running out the clock to record the win.
