In another impressive
team performance on Saturday in Wells,
Windham’s A squad recorded another shutout
in a 35-0 rout of Wells.
Windham won
the coin toss and elected to receive.
Windham’s powerful line controlled the tempo
as they marched down the field. Quarterback
Calvin Field handed off to
Colby Waterhouse and he would rush
twenty five yards for the touchdown. Damien
Shepard
(AOW)
would rush for the two point conversion.

Wells wasn’t able to put
much together in their first possession and
would punt the ball to the Eagles. The
Eagles were quick to convert another
touchdown. On the third play of the
possession, Field pitched right to
Waterhouse.
Waterhouse rolled and threw a pass to an
uncovered Damien Shepard
(AOW)
and he ran in the fifty five yard touchdown
reception.
Shawn Francoeur would kick the extra
point to put the Eagles up fifteen to zero.
In the second quarter,
the Eagles would add another pair of
touchdowns and demonstrated their ability
with a trick play. Windham would march from
mid field and Christian Coons would blast
through the line for a five-yard touchdown.
The PAT kick would miss wide. A few minutes
later, Windham was back in the Warriors
territory after a Nicky Sundquist
interception.

After a few advancing
plays, quarterback
Field would run through a hole big
enough to drive a tractor trailer through to
make the score twenty seven to zero.
Coach Coons called time
out and asked if the kids wanted to have
some fun. With little resistance, the kids
ran the play. The team lined up for the
kick. Kick placer Coons caught the ball and
without looking, tossed it behind him.
Kicker
Shawn Francoeur had begun running toward
the right end zone corner.
Francoeur easily caught the errant toss
and converted the PAT for two points.

Many players had seen
playing time all over the field in the
second half. Damien Shepard
(AOW)
took snaps as quarterback
and even though the team was called for
illegal motion and delay of game, the
experience was good for all involved. Late
in the fourth quarter, more fun was to be
had. Reminiscent of “Refrigerator Perry” of
the Chicago Bears in the eighties, lineman
Tyler Pennanen was sent in to carry the ball
from the Warrior sixteen yard line.
Pennanen would take the hand off and ramble
fifteen yards to just miss the end zone.
The next play was identical and the lineman
recorded his first touchdown.
