VOLUNTEER NEEDED:
I have the use of a digital video camera and
need a volunteer to film games. Maybe some
of you would be willing to take turns so it
isn't a burden on one person. My hope is to
get footage all season and put together a
highlight film to distribute at the end of
the season.
AUGUST 29, 2007 NOTES
Good practice
tonight. We will work on defense against
next week. More focus on short, shuffle
steps as they get close to attacker with
ball.
Practices
are Wednesday and Friday starting next week,
same 6pm start time. I will keep Wednesday
as close to an hour as possible with school
back.
See everyone
on Saturday at 10am in Cumberland, click on
the field name in the schedule for
directions. I have never been to the field
but if anyone knows better directions please
leave them in the comment form below and i
will post them here or email me and i will
post them.
AUGUST 27, 2007 NOTES
Great practice
tonight. We had a guest, Tyler Connors,
Goalie of the U12 Boys team teach the
players some basic goal keeping techniques.
We also worked
on taking the ball wide before going up
field. We will continue working on this on
Wednesday and include defensive tactics.
We will
continue working on basic terminology and
positioning on Wednesday too.
You may have
noticed we are playing an aggressive
formation (2-1-2) (2 defenders, 1
midfielder, 2 forwards) where we try to put
a lot of pressure on the goal when we get
down there but this also allows us to have a
3rd defender fall back when our opponent is
on the attack.
We will
continue working on attacking the goal kicks
in practice and in the tournament this
weekend. We had some success getting a lot
of shots off doing this and we turned one of
these opportunities into a goal. The hope is
that we can make this (and everything we do)
second nature so no one needs to yell
instructions to the guys during the games.
Time permitting we will work on a basic
throw in play on Wednesday night.
There will be
a change in the practices days next week. I
am trying to find field times a little
earlier since school is back in session. The
other goal is to be able to keep these times
for the remainder of the season and with the
days getting shorter that means we have to
get started a little earlier.
UNIFORMS ARE HERE
August 23 2007
I have the
uniforms at my house. Anyone who wants to
can swing by our house on Friday or Saturday
to pick theirs up. Someone should be here
most of the day but I recommend calling my
cell first to verify. Due tot he late
receipt of the uniforms, numbers will be on
a first come first serve basis.
GAME TIME:
Noon on Sunday
on the high school varsity soccer field.
Behind the football field.
NEWS:
PRACTICE AUGUST 22nd 2007
Another good
practice tonight! Everyone worked hard.
This was the
second practice in a row that we focused on
positions and team shape. We also introduced
a new formation (2-1-2) which is 2
defenders, 1 midfielder, 2 offensive
players. My thought process for this
formation is that it is a compromise between
being defensively or offensively minded.
This formation requires the midfielder to
cover a lot of ground, he is an extra weapon
on offense, and an extra defender in our
end. I think this may be a good transition
position for the boys too as most of them
still want to play the whole field. We will
continue working on positioning and shape
throughout the season. It wont always
be the primary focus like it was this week
but we will work on it
NO PRACTICE
FRIDAY: I mentioned it in the last update
but too many families had other plans.
TEAM JACKETS, PANTS & BACKPACKS
(These items
are all optional. Please don't feel you have
to purchase them if the budget doesn't
allow. They did warn me that if you purchase
them later when they aren't getting bigger
shipments at a time the price could go up to
cover shipping costs. I will also add that
we only intend on buying the jacket at most
for Ethan.)
I apologize
for the short notice. I scheduled an
appointment for 5PM on Wednesday August 22nd
at Marzilli Embroidery located at
6 Marzilli Way off of Land of Nod Rd.
Anyone who isnt sure of where to go can meet
me at my house at about 5:45PM at 78 Land of
Nod Rd. I live right around the corner from
them.
We really only
have one option for jackets because of
sizes. I took Ethan down to try on the other
version and they only come in adult sizes
and are HUGE. You may pick and choose which
items you want to order.

MONDAY AUGUST 20th PRACTICE
Great
practice! Everyone worked hard! Here is a
recap of some of the things we learned:
- If we have
the ball we need to spread out because if we
don't it is easier for one person from the
other team to cover two people which will
make it harder for us to move the ball.
- We learned
how to do an indirect kick and that the ball
has to touch another person before going
into the goal.
- We learned
that we should NEVER pass the ball in from
of our own goal. We also need to dribble the
ball away from our goal, not towards it or
in front of it.
EXTRA
PRACTICE THIS WEEK!
Coach Arne and
Coach Mike will hold a 3rd practice this
week. It will be Friday evening 6PM on the
very first field as you drive in at Gambo.
MONDAY AUGUST 6th PRACTICE
Great
practice! Everyone played hard and learned
the Cryuff Turn very quickly. We hope
everyone practices this move at home. It is
a quick, evasive move that can separate you
from the defender in 1v1 situations
(Watch
Johan Cruyff perform the Cruyff Turn)
THURSDAY AUGUST 2nd Practice is Cancelled!!
Next Practice is Monday 6pm at Gambo.
Clinics on Sunday and Wednesday at Gambo.
07/29/07 PRACTICE CHANGE:
The
practice time and place has changed. It is
now at 5pm Tuesdays and Thursdays at
GAMBO field on Windham Center Rd. Please
plan on 75 minutes and be flexible depending
on how the boys are handling the practice.
We will talk
about our practice options for the rest of
the summer at practice.
07/26/07 Practice
Recap:
We continued on soft touches by keeping the
playing grids small and coaching the boys to
keep the ball close and in control. We
taught the boys how do use the outside of
their feet to strike the ball.
Next week's Practice will be more soft
touches. We are going to introduce using the
bottom of the foot. We will also be
reviewing everything else we have learned in
warm ups. I intend to do a similar warm up
before every practice and game. I want the
soft touches and dribbling in tight space to
be second nature by the end of the season
and the best way I can think of to
accomplish that is by repetition.
07/24/07 Practice
Recap:
We learned soft touches with different
surface of the foot tonight.
-
Toe Taps
-
Pull Backs
-
In Betweens
We
reinforced these soft touches by playing
"London Bridge" where the players dribbled
through a teammates legs repeatedly, keeping
the ball close to them, and keeping their
heads up to make sure they didn't run into
their teammate.
We played a 4v4 round robin and put some
emphasis on spreading out.
Thursday's Practice will be more soft
touches, focusing on inside and outside of
the foot. We will also have our first
juggling contest.
07/22/07 PRACTICE CHANGE:
The
practice time and place has changed. It is
now at 5pm Tuesdays and Thursdays at
MacKenzie field on Windham Center Rd. Please
plan on 75 minutes and be flexible depending
on how the boys are handling the practice.
07/15/07 - Team Fees are Now Due.
Please let me
know if you have any sponsors to turn in so
we can determine our final per player cost
and pay the league for our team fees this
year.

We still
need a team administrator to assist me with
the paperwork. The first responsibility will
be helping me collect sponsors from other
parents.
Anyone who
wants to help with the team in anyway needs
to fill out this
form and mail it to the address at the
top of the form. With everyone's schedule
there is a good chance I will need
volunteers at practices and I wont be able
to use anyone who hasn't sent this
form in.
