SEVENTH GRADE BOYS DROP THIRD STRAIGHT

Rough times have fallen upon the 7th grade
boys team as they dropped their third game
in a row to Mahoney, 50-41. Like the
previous three games, the boys played a
solid first half and maintained a lead
heading into halftime.
Nate Sawyer, Calvin Field, Christian Coons,
Brad Carpentier, and Joe Francoeur were the
starters in the first quarter. Scoring was
spread across the board as four of the six
players to play put points on the board,
including two great shots and solid play
from Nate Sawyer. The starters in the
second quarter consisted of Spencer Noel,
Hawreh Haddadi, Jordin Allen, Gabe Purves,
and Shawn Francoeur, with Cole Moran and
Dylan Weisser coming off the bench. There
was much of the same in the second as five
of the seven players scored. "I was very
pleased with the way we came out in the
first half. Even though we only had a three
point lead, I thought we played pretty solid
basketball. We had excellent balance," said
Coach Manzo.
The second half was a different story. The
boys were outscored 14-4 in the third
quarter and had a difficult time solving the
half court zone Mahoney was playing. "The
past three games have been real hard to
swallow. We have played very well for the
first 14 minutes; go into halftime with a
lead, then come out flat footed in the third
and fourth quarters. In each of the games,
there has been one quarter where we simply
cannot get anything going offensively, and
when the offense isn't clicking it has a
serious affect on our defense. We become
lackadaisical when we aren't scoring and
good teams will exploit that, which is
exactly what has happened the last three
games,"
said Coach Manzo. Mahoney's shining star
was #13, who had a game high
21 points, including 12 in the fourth
quarter alone.
The school season will be on hiatus until
January 7th at 3:30, when the boys will get
back into action at home against a very good
Lyman Moore team. In the meantime, you can
catch them playing in the 2007 Holiday Hoops
Tourney in Scarborough on December 26th and
27th. The first game will be at 8:00 a.m.
versus Gorham, followed by a 10:30 a.m.
match-up with Massabesic. The opponents for
December 27th will depend on how the boys
fair on their first day. Other 7th grade
teams competing in the tournament are Lyman
Moore, York, and Scarborough. Good luck
