7th Grade Basketball Team
Controls and Defeats Gorham 32-19
November 30, 2007

Again, with
the SMAA rules in effect, this game was much
closer in the first half than the
8th
grade game. The starting squad of
Jordin Allen,
Brad Carpentier,
Calvin Field,
Shawn Francoeur and
Gabe Purves battled in the
first to a 6-4 lead. It seemed the game
start was a combination of nerves and
tentativeness. The second quarter was
similar with the half time score being 15-11
in favor of the
Eagles. Coach Manzo’s input
on the first half was “We
did not play particularly well in either of
the first halves of our games.
We could not seem to take advantage of our
height and harness our intensity. We had a
lot of good looks in the first half that we
just could not seem to finish and with time
we will.”

The second half was much like the
8th
grade game
second half, a very physical
demonstration. According to Manzo,
“However, much like the first game, we were
able to come out strong in the second half
and limit Gorham to one point in the third
quarter. We cranked it up a notch
defensively causing turnovers which
ultimately gave us some easy looks at the
basket.”
Unlike the first game, scoring was pretty
much evenly spread across the whole squad.
“Offensively, 10 different players were able
to put points on the board which truly shows
how unselfish
this group of boys is. It is only a
matter of time before this group puts it all
together and has a break-out game.”
Dylan Weisser
led scoring with 7 points.
Spencer Noel
and
Brad Carpentier
each put in 4
points. 7 other players each had 2-3 points
shared amongst them. Clearly, these players
are able to find the open man, pass and
score.
Catch the
Eagles next on Tuesday as they take on the
Bonny Eagle Scots at WMS.
